“I don’t think I can face any of them now.”

“You still have to finish the season.”

“I know.”

“I’m always here if you want to talk. I’m still your friend.”

“Did you know?”

“I didn’t. Not until Memphis called me today. He explained what happened and that you were here. I wanted to come talk to you.”

“Thank you.”

“Go back to the homestead. You don’t have to talk to anyone. I’ll tell them to give you some time. But at some point, you’re going to have to talk to them.”

“I know.” I don’t want to, but I know I will. Today is just not that day.

“I’ll take you back. I’ll bring your car over tomorrow.”

“Thank you.” I get to my feet and hug him.

“All I want is for you to be happy.”

“I will be, someday,” I tell him honestly.

“I know you will. You’re stronger than you think.”

I don’t know about that, but I’m happy he has confidence in me.

He drives me back, and I can see that everyone is sitting on the porch. My dad and Shane are deep in conversation. I ignore the looks and head inside.

“Hey.” Carlton stops me.

“Hey.”

“I have no idea what to say.”

“It’s alright. Do I have to do anything tonight?”

“Sal has a game set up for the guys tonight.”

“Alright. I’ll be down in a bit.”

He hugs me but doesn’t say anything.

I slip into the shower and see the razor—just one more time.

I slice the razor across my leg and watch the blood wash down the drain. I wish it would wash this day down the drain. I finish up, patch my leg, and throw on some jeans and a T-shirt. No need for flare.

I pull my hair into a messy bun and head downstairs.

“Timber,” Ever calls but I wave her off. Not ready.

“Gentlemen, today is going to be kind of fun. We’re doing musical chairs. If you get out, you have to put on a crazy hat. This might sound stupid, but you’re guys, everything gets competitive.” Carlton chuckles. “Winner gets dinner with Timber,” he says, and I watch all of them grin.

The crew sets up the chairs, and the guys take their seats.

The first song played is “Holler Boys” by Upchurch. I love this song. I watch as they stalk around the chairs. It’s quite comical to see the looks on their faces. Axel looks really intense.
