“I have Peanut and Ice to help me through my sorrow,” Rome whispers to me and I snort. So unladylike.

“Cut.”

“I’m sorry, both of you,” I tell them.

“It’s okay. We get it.” Hunter hugs me. “I need to get home. I have some family stuff to take care of, but I’ll visit soon.”

“I hope everything is alright.” I kiss his cheek.

“It is. I just need to help my parents out with moving. They waited until I was off the show.”

“I hope we see you soon.” I wave as he grabs his bag and heads to a waiting car.

“I’m leaving as well,” Rome says.

“Oh.”

“I’ll be back. I just need to bust in a few heads, and then I’ll come see the finale.”

“Oh, okay. Safe travels,” I say, squeezing his hand.

“Will you watch Peanut and Ice while I’m gone?”

“Sure. I’m adopting one of my own, hopefully.”

“I heard about your date. You really are an amazing person, Timber.”

He grabs his bag and heads to the waiting car. I will miss both of them. It’s hard to say goodbye.

I sigh and head inside, ignoring people calling out to me.

I slip my dress off and get in bed, staring at the text from Dayton. I should have talked to him. Now I will never get the chance.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-FOUR

DAYTON

“Hickory woman saves dog,” I hear the news in the background in the gym. I turn and see her. She’s talking to a dog on the ground.

“Must be a slow news day,” a guy behind me murmurs.

All my feelings crash into me.

“Who cares about some fat ass?” I unleash everything I’m feeling, smashing my fist into the guy’s face.

“What the fuck?” The guy is screaming about his broken nose.

“Fuck.” Brice runs over and pushes me back out the door.

I am so lost, and Timber found me. What am I going to do?

“I see you’re still angry.” Rome is leaning up against the building.

“What the fuck do you want?” I snarl at him.

“Down, boy. Your brother called me.”

“Why?”
