“I think that’s sweet,” I say with a smile.

“I try. Why California?”

“I followed my sister out there when my parents cut her off. I felt like someone had to look out for her. She didn’t appreciate that though,” I say.

“She doesn’t deserve you,” he says. I know that now.

He pulls my chair closer and holds me, which I haven’t been held like this in a long time.It feels nice.

“Can I ask you a question?” he asks.

“Yeah.”

“You said prenup. Did you write that up?”

“I did. My grandfather left me quite a big inheritance and a house in Texas.Sawyer knew it was coming since we were together before my grandfather passed. I was informed by my parents to get one. They never trusted Sawyer.”

I shouldn’t have ever agreed to marry him.I was in love or so I thought, young and wanted to be loved. I made a mistake. He squeezes me tight, running his nose up and down the side of my neck. This feels nice.

“It’s time to go pick up Gage. After that I wanted to take you on a bike ride.”

“I’ve never been on a bike.”

“Do you have boots?”

“I do.”

“Wear jeans, boots, and a long sleeve tee shirt. You can bring a tank top with you if you want,” he says.

“Okay. Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise,” he grins as we get back in the truck and drive the short time to the school.

Noah and Gage both climb in.

“Can Noah stay over?” Gage asks.

“Did he check with his parents?” I ask.

“I’ll call his dad,” Zion says, pulling the truck out and heading for the inn.

“How was school?”

“Good.I am going to try out for the basketball team next week,” Gage goes on about his day and I smile because he’s happy.

I pull up to the inn and let the boys out who rush in, probably hoping Gator has snacks, which I’m sure he does.

“Thank you for lunch,” she whispers from the front seat.

“My pleasure,” I sound like an ass.

We sit in awkward silence before I decide to break it.

“I’ll be back to pick you up in a couple hours,” I say, and she nods.
