“Have someone bring a bucket. I can undress her and dress her, no problem,” she says. “Once the doc gives the okay, I’ll help her into the tub, but for now it’s buckets.”

“Gage, have Tex show you where the big bowls are. Fill one with hot water,” I tell Gage and he runs off.

“Trick, Dixon,” I murmur, and they follow me out into the hallway.

“Zoe is going to wash and clean her wounds and then redress her,” I tell them and they nod, they understand that Lyra would want privacy.

“Trick, did she say anything on the way here?”

“Only that Plum would hate her. She was pretty out of it when she was found,” Trick says.

“Doc is here,” Cupid says.

“She’s in there, with Zoe,” I tell the doctor who is already in clinical mode.

“See if Kaylee can make some broth and toast. Hopefully she will be up to a little something to eat and then talk. It will be rough for her at first, not sure how long she went without food,” I grumble.

“I’ll go to the kitchen,” Cupid says right as Gage comes back. He steps inside and hands Zoe the bowl and walks back out, head hanging.

“Hey,” I grab him by the neck.

“I shouldn’t have said anything about her,” he mutters.

“You were angry and I’m sure she will understand that. I’ll come find you when she’s up,” I say and he goes back to the common room and Noah. This whole thing is fucked.

“I’d like to be the one to question her. She might know what happened to my wife,” Dixon says.

“I’ll follow your lead when it’s time,” I agree. It is his family. But she is the key, I think, to finding Plum and taking out those assholes.

“She’s severely malnourished,” Doc steps out into the hallway, “the bruises are starting to heal. From what I can see and feel, she doesn’t have any broken bones. When she’s up to it, bring her by the hospital just to be sure. Take it easy on foods. She can work up each day.”

“Thanks, Doc,” I say as he hands me a bottle.

“These are pain killers. She might not have any broken bones, but she’s in a lot of pain. Try to bring her sooner than later,” he says as he walks off.

We wait a few more minutes before Zoe tells us we can come in.

“Hey,” Dixon sits on the side of the bed and Lyra takes one look at him and starts sobbing.

“I’m sorry, Daddy. I’m so sorry,” she sobs.

“Hey. It’s okay. Do you know where your mom is?”

“Yeah.”

“Plum?”

“Yeah, well I did. I’m so sorry. Plum is going to hate me. She already does.”

“Were you using drugs?” I ask her. Dixon’s glares at me.

“I didn’t want to, but Sawyer told me that they would take all my cares away. I would come down and need more. He needed a willing participant in his schemes. He supplied me and then I was molded to do what he wanted to do.”

“Like steal from your grandpa and me,” Dixon says, and Lyra nods.

“I’m so sorry,” she cries out again.

“Why were you so mean to Plum?” Cupid asks.
