“He’s over there,” I point to where Gage is talking to some club kids. That’s what we call kids by members of the club. They’re all his age and I have to thank Ziggy later for introducing him to those guys.

“Who are they?”

“Those are local kids,” I lie, though it’s not a lie.I just don’t bring up the patch on my back.

“I know about your club,” she says in a soft, husky voice. It does things to me and she’s not even trying. I feel like I want to do things to her that end with her smiling…and me.

“They told you?” meaning Luca, Ziggy, Tex, and Gator.

“Yeah. Well, just that you are a club. I’m guessing that those kids belong somehow?” she says and she’s not wrong.

“Those are kids of members of the club, so yeah they belong somehow.”

She doesn’t say anything, just takes a bit of some fish they caught this morning and moans. That moan goes straight to my dick.

“This is so good,” she moans again and something primal in me wants to pull her in my lap and fuck her, don’t even care if there is an audience.

“We do this every Friday. Not to this caliber, but the club does this with our families every Friday. I hope you come,” I sound like I’m begging, and I don’t know why.

“I don’t know.”

“Gage said you didn’t have a destination. We have a good high school with a few sports.I’m sure we can find something for you to do. I think I was told you were a librarian?”

“I was. I also was a bookkeeper,” she says.

“I could use one. I’m struggling with three businesses,” I admit.

“I could take a look if you want,” she says, and I almost pump my fist in the air. I at least got her to stay another day.

“Tomorrow? I could meet you at the diner,” I say, and she nods.

“I’ll let Gator know a time,” I say as we sit in silence and watch everyone.

After a while I see her shiver and I feel like a dick for not hunting down a blanket for her.

“I’m going to go in for the night,” she says sweetly.

“I’ll walk you,” I offer. It’s not only because I want to be near her, but it’s for safety.Bones had to take out two Beasts today. I don’t like that. They will surely try to call a war.I hope it doesn’t get to that.

CHAPTERFOUR

Plum

The large mountain of a man walked me home and makes sure I’m in my room before leaving. He said his name is Zion.I have to say he is handsome but reserved, he doesn’t flaunt it like other guys. While he smiled and chatted with others, he still seemed off.

I shouldn’t care but I do. I feel that he’s hurting somehow. I know I am.I still need to figure out what to do with my life. I could go to my parents, but I don’t want to burden them with housing me and Gage. I’m surprised my mom hasn’t called me yet.Or my dad.Lyra wasn’t the best child and a long time ago they washed their hands of her. I loved my sister and followed her to California to try and keep her in line, someone had to do it. She didn’t want someone mothering her and became real nasty about it.It got even worse when my parents and I were the only ones in my grandpa’s will.I was left the fortune; my parents got his vacation home which they occupy year round since they’re retired and living the life in Georgia.I’m happy for them.

I change into some sweatpants and a tank top, slipping on a cardigan and go out to the common room to see if Gator set anything out to drink.

“Looking for coffee?” I hear his rumbly voice.

“Yeah.”

“Didn’t want to stay at the party?” he asks as he starts setting up the pot.

“I needed to look into some things and figure out what to do about my car and a life,” I sniff.

“We’ve taken care of your car, but it will be a few days,” Gator says, pouring a cup of coffee once the pot is full.
