“And threw me away like I was trash.” I sat the glass on the table and hugged up next to Dana. I’d downed half the bottle in ten minutes and my head swam. “I could have taken him out tonight.”

“You should have fucked with his bike.”

“Poisoned his drink.”

“Cut his dick off while he used the bathroom.” Dana took my knife out of its carrier on my hip. She liked knives, too. She ran her thumb down the flat surface.

“I just want to know what he had to say, they weren’t invited, so why did they show up.”

“Their club isn’t big, but it’s powerful and he speaks the loudest.” She put the knife back.

I was never allowed around when serious club business was going on. When other clubs were around, I was sent home like the night I met Dana and James and saw the Lady Guardians for the first time. I’d seen some female clubs, but none of them were as organized and earned as much respect as we did. It helped that we had the baddest motorcycle club on our six. We could also hold our own in our own right.

It made me proud to call myself a Lady Guardian; I shouldn’t have to hide in my own home.

Dana yawned.

“You’re tired.” I sat up. “You should go to bed.”

She narrowed her eyes.

“I promise I won’t leave. I’m going to finish this bottle and pass out right here.” I patted the couch.

“You sure you don’t want to talk about it more.”

“No.” I shrugged my shoulders. “I’ve got nothing else to say.” I wouldn’t have to wonder anymore about what I would do and how it would feel when I saw him, it was fine. Now, he was gone. Life would go back to normal. As normal as it could be.

Dana hugged me. I helped her off the couch and watched her waddle toward the stairs.

“You can have your old room back, move back in here with Cason.”

I stood up.

“Dana, you and James need this time for your own family.”

“You are my family.” Dana blinked away tears.

“You know what I mean.” I brushed her hair off her shoulders. “We are family, and we are going to be fine. I’m a grown ass woman with a child. I have weapons and know how to use them.” I nodded and shrugged my shoulders. “I'm safe as I’m going to be.”

She nodded, kissed me on the cheek and turned and went up the stairs.

“Don’t you act up, sassy,” She said over her shoulder. “I can still sit on you.”

I shook my head and slumped back into the couch. I raised the bottle to my lips, but sat it back down.

Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to drink myself into oblivion. It’s better to keep my wits about me.

The images of the television lulled me into a light sleep.

I woke from a noise. I sat up and looked around.

“It’s just me.” James walked into the living room with a frown on his face.

“What’s wrong?”

He looked lost in his own head.

“What?” He shook his hands. “Oh, nothing.”
