“This is Mase.”

“The one who shot you?” She raised the gun.

I stood almost a foot taller than Grace. She had me between the eyes, even at her height.

“Josey.” Grace yelled and shifted to the lady’s left.

Josey’s eyes followed.

Grace slid her arm down the ladies arm and pulled the gun out of her hand, disarmed it and clicked the safety.

Josey looked back at her hand, confused as to what happened.

“Your reflexes aren’t as good as they used to be, old lady.” Grace giggled.

“Who you calling old?”

“Josey, “ Grace took a step forward.

I sighed and looked down. Now that I might live, I was aware of my dick hanging out for the world to see. I grabbed the towel off the rack and wrapped it around my waist.

“Child, what are you doing?” Josey stepped back and crossed her arms over her chest.

“I got it covered.” Grace put a hand on her shoulder. “Please go take Case to school and then go to work. I’ll talk to you tonight.”

“Well,” she held her hand up. “Can I have my gun back?”

I tensed.

“I’ll put it back in the safe.”

Josey nodded and backed away giving me the stink eye the whole way.

“What is going on in this place?” She held her hands up. “You got some man slinging his dick around. He could've raped and murdered us all. What the fuck you expect me to think?”

Grace shut the door and shook her head.

Josey’s rant continued down the hall.

“Cason learns his colorful way of speech from her.” Grace sat the gun on the counter. “Cuss words, too.”

“Like I taught you and Mattie.”

She smiled and sat down on the toilet.

“You okay.” She turned her head up to me.

“No bullet holes, I’d say the day’s gone well so far.” I ran my hand up my abs to confirm.

“You get any sleep.” Grace reached up and ran her fingers over the stiches in my side.

“Some.”

“It’s healed nice.” I twitched when she picked at the last stitch. “You want me to take them out.”

“Yeah.”

Grace stood up and bent over to grab something form underneath the sink.
