“It doesn’t matter. We only need to fool them for a few minutes,” Carlos loudly whispered. The bathroom door opened again, and the lady threw out her black dress and heels.
Carlos held the dress out to me. “Let’s get you changed, okay?” He winked.
I reared my hand back and swung. The back of my hand caught him solidly on his cheek. The sound filled the room. His nose bent. He stumbled to the side. His hand flew up to rub his face.
Caden’s arms wrapped around me and pulled me back a few feet. I fought against him to get in another lick.
Carlos stood and licked the side of his mouth.
I made him bleed.Good.
The other two men in the room stood with mouths gaping in shock.
It felt good. I wanted to do it again, but Caden had a firm hold on me.
“Baby, it’s okay.” I blinked and turned back to him. I collapsed in his hold. He pulled me to him. I sobbed. I grieved for the man holding me in his arms and telling me everything was going to be alright. I let it all out. I knew we had limited time, but I needed the minute to get my brain working linear again.
My tears subsided, and my heart rate returned to normal. Caden gripped my face in his hands and searched. He must have seen what he needed to see.
“Let’s get you changed.” He pushed the robe off my shoulders and paused.
I looked down at myself. I looked up into his face. His dark-eyed lusty face had returned at the most inopportune time.
“You can ogle me later.” I grabbed the dress off the floor and pulled it over my head. It fit me fine.Bitch.
I stepped into the heels. I never wore high heels. I grew four inches and came to Caden’s chin. I leaned in and kissed him. He kissed me back.
He hugged me to him and whispered in my ear. “When we get out of this, I’m tearing that getup from your body and fucking you until you forget the last twenty-four hours. Then we’re going to burn it. Okay?” He grabbed my face and kissed me hard.
“I love you, too.” I nipped at his lips. He grinned and laid a final peck on my cheek.
“Mija.”The lady who now wore my dress motioned for me. She sat me on the bed and redid my hair and makeup. Our hair was the same length and color. Hers was straighter than mine. She placed the little black hat with the black veil over my face. “There. We could be twins.” She scanned my body and smacked her lips and turned back to finish up her own makeover.
“What happens now?” I asked. A knock at the door made all of us jump.
“Sweetheart.” My dad spoke through the door. “Are you okay? We’re about ready for you.”
“Tell him you will meet him at the bottom of the stairs,” Caden whispered.
“I’m fine.” My voice squeaked. “I’ll meet you at the bottom of the stairs.”
“Five minutes, okay?”
“Okay.” I held my breath as his footsteps walked away.
Carlos stood near the door; guns drawn. I looked around at the rest of the group and similar stances of readiness with guns drawn and pointed to the ground.
“Here.” Caden pulled my gun from behind him and handed it to me.
I gripped the handle. Checked the safety and turned it over in my hand. I wasn’t a fan of guns, but Caden taught me how to shoot. I had great aim. Put a paper target, a Coke can, or a papaya in front of me and I didn’t miss. Shooting at an actual person ...
“Just in case.” Caden gripped my chin.
“But, if someone gets in your way, don’t miss.” Carlos added. “Justine, you know what to do.” He pulled another gun out of his holster and opened the door a crack.
Justine emerged from the bathroom in my wedding dress and a full veil covered her face. I turned back to Caden.
“Don’t worry about it. This is their fight.” Caden kissed my cheek. “We are getting the fuck out of here.”
