I checked my gun; it was already loaded. Just like I taught her. I clicked on the safety, grabbed Amari’s arm, and pulled her back toward the house. The bowl flipped out of her hand and berries scattered.
“Caden?” She yanked her arm out of my grasp.“What is wrong with you?”
“The guy saidnice setup you two got here.”
“So.” She held her hands out and frowned.
“Two, Mari.” I reached for her.
She narrowed her eyes and shook her head back and forth.
“He said it before you even walked out here.” I wiped my face. “How did he know I wasn’t alone?”
