He nodded and stood up.

“Oh, by the way, the Infinity Kings are no longer a gang.” I chuckled. “We’re a motorcycle club. There’s a difference.”

“Good to hear it.”

He chatted with some of the guys and gave them the good news.

I fell back down on the couch.

“I’m so glad he’s going to be okay.” Mackenzie crawled into my lap and wrapped herself around me. She hugged me tight.

“Me too.” I hugged her back.

CHAPTER 15

KENZIE

We camped out in Patrick’s room until he woke up. I tried to get Reid to relax, but he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Bikers showed up to speak to him every few minutes. He dished out orders like he’d been doing it all his life. Two guys stood guard at Patrick’s door, watching over us. Even enemies took a day off.

“What are you still doing here?” Patrick tried pushing himself up. I jumped out of the surprisingly comfortable plush leather chair in the corner to help him. “You need to get some rest.”

“I can’t get him to leave.” I looked over at Reid. “I tried.”

“Ready to run off with my best friend and not look back?” He chuckled but grabbed his stomach with his good hand.

“I couldn’t if I tried.”

He scoffed.

“He’s more in love with you than he is with me.”

“Probably, but you, my little sister, can give him something I can’t.”

Was my brother talking to me about having sex with his best friend? “Creepy.”

“Oh God, no. Not that.” He shook the disgust off his face. “I meant, you can take care of him. He’ll let you. He won’t let me. And he needs someone to take care of him.”

“He seems pretty capable to me.” I looked again and he was right. If someone didn’t put their foot down and get him to shut off, he was going to be no good to anyone.

“You ready to be the First Lady of our club?”

I turned to face Patrick. “Aren’t you going to be the new president?”

“I don’t think so.” He inspected his hand and wiggled his fingers. It had been put in a black plaster cast while he was under. “I don’t know if I want it, but we promised we’d build it back up and then in six months, we’d let the members vote. We don’t need another dictatorship.”

“Smart.” I adjusted the covers on his bed.

“Stop babying me.” He waved me off. “Go take care of your man.”

I didn’t move.

“What?”

“It’s weird, right? We’re related. I never thought about having a big brother.” I took his good hand. “It seems kind of unceremonious.”

“It is weird. And isn’t there some big no-no about you hooking up with my best friend?” He smirked. “I should kick his ass or something and then make him promise to never ever hurt you.”

“Well, if I ever get a best friend, I give you one free pass to hit on her.” I squeezed his hand.
