“Does that happen a lot?”I ask.Xavier opens the car door for me.

“Yes,” he says and speeds over, showing off for the teens, who no doubt were wondering if he was a vampire.“Kids are better at sensing whether we are vampires or not.More so than adults.”

“Interesting.”I pull my seatbelt over my chest and click it in place.“I guess it’s similar to how kids can sense spirits but a lot of adults lose that ability as they age.”

“It would make sense.”

I lean back, looking at the scenery as we drive to the hotel. It surprises me how tired I am when we get into the room. We’re at a bed and breakfast in a historic mansion, and the windows have the same metal shades as the house does back in Charlotte.

Xavier turns on the shower, and despite how exhausted I am, I get turned on by seeing Xavier’s body.It was too dark in the mausoleum to fully look him over and as he stands here, naked before me with hot water dripping down his body, I take my time appreciating him.

I run my hands down his chest and then drop to my knees, taking his cock in my hands, stroking him as he grows hard.Cocks in themselves aren’t pretty things, but this monster cock in my hands is a thing of beauty.Closing my eyes, I put my lips to the tip and flick my tongue. He lets out a satisfied breath as I start sucking him off.

After a few minutes, he pulls me up, bends me over, and reaches around, stroking me with his fingers to make sure I’m warmed up enough before pushing inside me.I cling to the bar in the shower as he fucks me, and we come at nearly the same time again.

Once out of the shower, I climb into bed still wrapped in my towel.Xavier gets in next to me, large body curling around mine.He pulls the fluffy comforter over us, and I’m asleep in just minutes.

“Morning,”I say groggily, blinking my eyes a few times. The room is dark, making me think it’s still night.I have to remind myself it’s light tight. There’s a nightlight in the bathroom, giving off just enough light so I can see.

“Good morning.”Xavier is sitting up in bed next to me, holding a book with one hand.It must be nice to see in the dark like that.

“What time is it?”

“It’s almost one PM.”

“I can’t believe I slept so long.”

“You needed the rest.”

I stretch and sit up.The damp towel isn’t in bed anymore, and there’s a shopping bag on the desk on the wall opposite us.Getting out of bed to pee, I stop and peer inside the bag.

“I wasn’t sure what you’d need, so I had a few things delivered,” Xavier says.

A smile comes to my face and I turn, looking at him and feeling so fucking much.“Thank you.”I grab the bag and go into the bathroom. There are lounge clothes, toiletries, a hair brush, and clean socks in the bag. After going pee, I brush my teeth, brush the tangles out of my hair and braid it, and then put on the most comfortable set of matching sweats.

“Are you hungry?”Xavier asks as I get back into bed, grabbing a water bottle from the dresser.I chug half of it before I answer.

“Yes.Starving.”

“We can order room service.”

“That sounds amazing.”I tuck myself back in and scan the QR code to order food.We have sex while we wait for the food and it’s just as amazing as last night. The rumors about vampire-sex being better than human-sex are true.I want to text Mabel and gossip with her about this, which is weird because I’ve never had a girlfriend to say such things to before. It’s been a world of firsts since I got sold like cattle to the Malus family, and it’s crazy how things have turned out.

Xavier and I decide on a show to watch while I stuff my face, and then I fall asleep again after we binge three episodes. We have sex again when I wake up, and this time it’s slow and gentle, lasting nearly an hour of just laying in bed, making each other feel good.

We end up finishing the first season of the show.I ordered dinner, and am content to be snuggled in Xavier’s arms, doing something so mundane like this for a change.I’m dozing off when his phone rings. He sits up just enough to silence the call, and then we both end up falling asleep.I don’t know how much sleep vampires need, but it has to be significantly less than humans.

His phone ring again wakes us both up, and he frowns when he sees the name on the screen.

“Theo,” Xavier answers, annoyance clear in his tone.He keeps his hand on me, slowly moving his fingers toward my core. His demeanor changes as he listens to whatever Theo is saying and the energy shift sends a chill through me.We both sit up at the same time.

“What do you mean, she’s missing?”Xavier asks and my blood goes cold.My heart thumps in my chest as I wait, desperate for information.Every second that passes feels like forever. Finally, Xavier ends the call.

“What’s wrong?”I rush out.

“Mabel,” he says, brows pinching together.“She went out last night and never came home.”
