“Because he’s half of you,” she exclaimed. “A half that did an amazing thing in your previous life leading Múspellsheimr females off that horrible world so they could start a new life. One where they were no longer enslaved and repressed by their male counterparts. That’sgotto mean something.” She rested her hand over his heart. “Because somewhere behind the uber-alpha personality that wasn’t nearly so strong when you were younger is the good and noble stuff. The red dragon that risked everything, so other dragons stood half a chance.”
“You have a unique way of looking at him.” He rested his hand over hers. “One I appreciate more than you know despite my aggravation with his behavior.”
“Good,” she said softly. Her gaze lingered on his face a moment before she tore her eyes away, worried at her vulnerability. She shook her head. “MyMúspellsheimr side, however, is another story. She needs to go.”
“Or does she?” he wondered. “Perhaps, as it was with me when I was younger, there’s a less intrusive version of her.” The corner of his mouth inched up. “Because shedoeshave her perks.”
Though she should be mortified at his implication—would have been hours before—something about their time in the Fortress had changed things. Brought her closer to him. Made her realize that she could deny it all she wanted, but she wasn’t entirely opposed to her other half’s sexual appetite. Like Maya, she’d always played it safe when it came to intimacy. Best that she kept her inner vibration up for her sisters. So entertaining thoughts that went much beyond the missionary position had been back-burnered.
“I suppose she’s notallbad,” she conceded, meeting his smirk, saying more than intended. “She’s definitely...” Naughty? Sinfully dangerous? “Experimental.”
“Yes, she is and,” he began but trailed off when they heard a commotion from inside his, their, chamber. Or cave, as they’d called it.
“What is that?” she exclaimed, frowning. It sounded like a man and woman fighting. “Is that Jade and Thorulf?”
“I don’t think so.”
It turned out when Vicar opened the door, he was right. Someone else was fighting, and yet again, more questions were answered.
Answers that explained just how she’d come to be so very naughty.
