“So you’ve married my kind before?”

“Well, no, as typically Unnamed Ones do not believe in matrimony...or even love of this sort.”

Come again? Cian and Madison raised their brows at each other.

“What does that mean?”she asked.“Unnamed Ones never fell in love?”

“Not in the common sense, m’Lady,”he replied.“Though they loved dearly.”

“So I would be...the first?”

“Ta.”They heard Oran’s pride.“And ‘twould be a privilege to bring ye both together.”

“Even though we might be going against the gods?”Cian wondered.

“Ta, m’Lord, even though.”They heard the pleasure in his voice.“So what say ye? Will ye return to King’s Heart so that ye can, at long last, take yer vows?”

Chapter Seventeen

WHILE TEMPTED TO stayin the water with Cian for as long as she could, Oran’s question if they were ready to marry was too compelling. If that weren’t enough, thunder rumbled in the distance, backing up what Cian had said earlier about storms rolling in.

“Come,mo dhraoi.”He pulled her after him out of the water. “There will be plenty of time for this later.”

While she wanted to believe him, something deep down inside feared. Worried that they may never have time here again. Anywhere for that matter.

“’Tis natural to fear that,” he said, following her thoughts.

Of course it was considering they were fated to remain apart, but she kept that to herself as they dressed. She didn’t want to ruin the moment any more than he did. Didn’t want to forget this amazing time as they smiled, held hands, and headed back to King’s Heart.

They never stopped smiling, not once, almost as if they might have done this before. Might have headed toward something that would make them beyond happy.

“We are,” she said, knowing he followed her thoughts. Heart, fears, and everything in between. “Whatever happens, we have this time, Cian. This night. Maybe more.” She smiled at him. “And that makes me happier than you know.”

He nodded in agreement, clearly cautious of saying too much, and she didn't blame him. They had gone from being engaged to getting married in what felt like a split second. More than that, they made love knowing she could get pregnant. No, they made lovewantingto get pregnant, and she knew it. He knew it. But neither was willing to admit it because everything could be ripped away in a heartbeat.

She still couldn’t quite figure out how she had gone from zero to sixty in a heartbeat, but she had. One hundred percent knew she wanted it all with him. Marriage. Kids. The whole nine yards.
