He blinked and jolted awake to morning light. “What is it?”

“I just had my dream again,” Madison said, fearful. “In my green dress. Something’s wrong. We need to get back to our castle right away.”

In full agreement, he had their belongings ready to go with a flick of his wrist. Fortunately, his men were used to waking and going at a moment’s notice because they had little time to spare.

“Can ye get all of us back to the castle with magic?” Bécc asked when Oran and Aisling confirmed that something they could not see was coming.

“You are sure ‘tis not coming here to King's Heart?” Cian asked them. “Not drawn to Madison again?”

“No.” Madison shook her head grimly. “This time, it’s drawn specifically to what I dreamt of.” Her eyes met his. “What you dreamt of.”

He nodded and looked at Bécc. “My magic’s stronger since coming together with Madison, so I hope, betwixt the two of us, we can move us quickly.”

Bécc nodded and rallied everyone to get ready for battle. They could be facing anything or mayhap nothing at all. Even though his King’s Heart guardsmen wanted to join them, he ordered them to stay. They must keep this location safe no matter what came of Cian and their people.

While they didn’t much like it, they nodded and stood their ground.

“Fight well, m’Lord and Lady,” one called out. “And defend our families.”

“We will if it’s the last thing we do,” Madison assured as he swung onto his horse behind her. She unsheathed her blade. Reminded them who, what, she was. “You have my word.”

Everyone cheered them on as they took up guard.

“Follow my chant,” he murmured in Madison’s ear. “With the two of us combined, this should happen easily.”

So she did. And it did.

Only, sadly enough, for their fears to be confirmed when they arrived at the castle moments later.

Chapter Nineteen

FEAR CHURNED MADISON'Sstomach when she took in the swarms of warriors who had just breached the castle gates. “Cian, hurry!”

No need to be told. He had rallied his men to attack, and they were flying toward the castle. She heard cries of pain on the wind. Wails of terror.

There were so many attacking.
