Trailed off when he realized the evening was by no means over.
Chapter Twenty-One
CONSTANCE COULDN’THELP but bite back tears when she saw what their siblings had done for them. A proper honeymoon in all the madness.
Tiny orbs, compliments of Madison and Cian’s Fae, drifted like luminescent snowflakes. Piles of plush furs and pillows made up a wide cot, and a cozy fire nearly down to embers cast a soft light. A platter rested on a small table full of fresh game, and several pitchers sat beside two mugs.
“It seems they thought of everything.” Aodh eyed the relatively large area. “Except chairs, that is.”
“Fairly certain they didn’t see us needing chairs when we’ve got that.” She smiled from him to the bed. “And I tend to agree.”
“Ta, lass.” He laid her down as though she might break and started toward the fire to resurrect it when he didn't need to. When he could have easily brought it back to life with magic.
“Mo thine.” She grabbed his wrist before he got too far and met his eyes when he looked at her. Knew he continued to struggle between their last life and this one. It hadn’t been easy learning what happened to them. Especially to his poor manhood. She patted the fur beside her. “Sit.”
So he did, clearly unsettled as his old life percolated beneath the surface.
As he worked to separate the two.
“Do you have any idea how wonderful you are?” She shifted until she sat beside him with one leg bent behind him. This time she tilted his chin until he looked at her. Made sure he saw all the love, respect, and adoration she felt for him. “How wonderful I thought you were in that life?” She blinked back tears. “How immensely in love I was with you every time we crossed paths over the years?”
Because so much was starting to come back. From the moment they were separated at her father’s castle to glimpses of him over time as they grew up. As she turned to her Unnamed One practices, and he trained to protect her kind. Gave up his ability to reproduce to remain near her.
“’Twas not painful,” Aodh managed, talking about it because he knew he should. It was something he needed to push past in this life. He swallowed hard because what man wouldn’t when remembering something like this? “They spared me that, at least.”
God, he had gone through a lot, hadn’t he? From the physical agony of burning in fire to giving up intimacy and the family he deserved.
“’Tis behind us now.” Aodh shook his head, filled a cup, and took a solid swig of whiskey. “We made it through, lass.” He cast a thankful look between his legs, breathed a heavy sigh of relief, and took another deep swig. “And all’s intact this time around.”
“It is,” she agreed softly, cozying closer to him. She ran her hand up his thigh and wrapped it around a pulsing arousal that made very clear he didn’t suffer the same fate as before. “And that’s all behind us now.” She wrapped her hand around the side of his strong neck and peppered kisses along his jaw. Flicked her tongue over his hot skin and squeezed her fist around his cock. Started stroking. “Now it’s just you and me and...”
She gasped when he tossed the drink aside and flipped her onto her back so fast the wind whooshed out of her. Under the impression he was desperate to be inside her and show her everything worked as it should in this life, he surprised her when he did nothing of the sort.
Instead, the wild look that had been in his eyes moments before faded, and he gazed at her like the boy from her last life. With so much love and respect, it made her vision grow blurry. Then he looked at her the way he had as the years rolled on. With nothing but respect when anyone was looking. Longing when he thought nobody saw.
Longing despite having no way to fulfill her.
