Then, I walked as fast as I could from his office and went into my own. I sat at my desk and started rifling through the paperwork, figuring out what deadlines were approaching and if I had any clients coming in that day.
About an hour later, I received a text. A smile instantly appeared and my morning brightened again when I saw who it was from.
Kane:Good morning ;)
Me:It’s almost afternoon, Officer Lazy. You ready for today?
He had another appointment with the psychologist at noon. If all went well, he should be able to go back to work soon. I knew how much he missed it and how sitting at home day after day was driving him crazy. When I suggested he mention the drinking episode to the doctor, he’d brushed me off, saying it had been no big deal.
I disagreed, but had let it drop, not wanting to push him too far too fast.
Kane:Yeah. I think so. I’ll check in afterward and let you know how it went.
Instead of responding, I set my phone down and got back to work. I’d only written a few sentences when another text came through.
Kane:Fuck, I can still smell you on my skin. I never want to leave this bed. Wanna know what I’m doing? ;)
I pictured him naked in bed, barely covered by the thin sheet, and how his muscles flexed as he moved on the mattress. Oh hell. It was the wrong time for me to start getting worked up.
Just as I was replying to his text, he sent another message, and I opened it.
A dick pic. And even more than that, he was gripping his dick and there was a bead of cum dripping from the tip. My mouth watered, and I craved to lick it off.
Me:Damn you, Kane. You can’t send me that while I’m at work.
Kane:Why not? Are u hard?
I took a deep breath, calming my racing heart.Hardwas an understatement.
Me:You have no idea.

Me:I am NOT sexting you at work. Forget it lol I have an appt with a client in like twenty minutes.
Kane:It only takes one to snap a pic, tho
I shook my head and sent a reply, telling him it wasn’t happening. He responded with the emoji sticking its tongue out followed by a fisted hand emoji and those water squirt ones. I knewexactlywhat he’d been referring to, and I adjusted myself and took more deep breaths.
That man would be the death of me.
A knock at my door damn near made me jump a foot in the air. Felicia, the other attorney in the office, entered, holding a file in her hands.
“Hey, do you have a minute?”
“Sure.” I quietly cleared my throat and watched as she walked farther in and took a seat across from me. “Is something wrong?”
“Not necessarily,” she answered, opening the file and flipping through it. “I agreed to take on a case, and I just had a few questions as I was looking through the file.”
Her blonde bangs fell into her eyes and she flicked her head to get them out of her face. She was known as the hot bombshell attorney, which gave her a reputation as a push over and most men in the practice didn’t take her seriously. However, the times she’d been in court, she’d kicked major ass and took the opposing council off guard.
“If my client was present when a drug bust happened, but he hadn’t actually handled the drugs and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, is there some kind of loophole to have the charges dropped?” she asked, chewing her lip.
“You can always try to get the case against him dismissed, but the motion will normally be denied in those instances.” I tapped my fingers on the desk as I thought. “It will be seen as he knew what was happening in the house and there’s really not any way toprovehe was oblivious. So, the judge will want to see the evidence against him.”
“This is my first drug case,” she said, wearing her nerves on her face. “Was I wrong to accept it?”
“There’s a first time for everything,” I told her. “When I took my first one, I was worried, too, but everyone deserves a fair trial, and you just have to remember that and put all personal feelings aside. I’ll help you with whatever I can as well, so don’t hesitate to ask.” The details of her case registered with me, and I scrunched my brow. “Are you defending one of the guys arrested from the huge bust a few weeks back? The one where an officer was wounded?”
