I shook my head at the ridiculous notion. You couldn’t fall in love in two weeks. The sex was out-of-this-world amazing and I enjoyed being around him. That was all. Strong infatuation, maybe, but not love.
I grabbed my phone and sent him a text.
Me:Hey, Freckles. If you’re not busy, come to my room. I need to ask you something.
We pulled into the hotel parking lot and got out of the car. Gideon walked me inside and we took the elevator to the fourth floor. I rarely got nervous, but as I walked into my room and started packing my bags to leave, I was shaking.
Kyler hadn’t texted me back yet.
The night before, we’d fucked all night and into the morning, knowing it’d been our last night together. He’d even fallen asleep and had woken up with me that morning, a bit frantic because he hadn’t had clean clothes for work. Gideon and I’d dropped him off at his apartment on our way to the set.
Him not responding to my text was unlike him. Especially since I saw that he’d read it.
I shoved clothes into my bag before zipping it. If he wanted to cut me off just like that, so be it. I wasn’t going to beg him to talk to me.
But…begging wasn’t beneath me when it came to him. The thought of never again kissing those freckles on his cheeks or seeing his gray eyes darken with desire almost had me texting him again.
There was a knock on my door.
Thinking it was Gideon, I went and opened it. “What?”
Then, I froze.
“Wow, not the greeting I expected,” Kyler said, his gray eyes big. “Are you pissed about something?”
“No.” Certainly not anymore, anyway. “Just tired. Come in.” I stepped aside so he could enter the room before closing the door behind him. “Why didn’t you tell me you were on your way?”
“I just got off work when I saw your text and thought I’d head over here,” he answered.
“Why are you out of breath?” I asked, cocking my head. “And sweaty?”
“Rode my bike to work since it was a nice day,” he answered, giving a self-conscious smile. “Sorry.”
My lips twitched. “Sorry? Why are you apologizing?”
“I don’t know.” Kyler let loose a sharp laugh and ruffled his light-brown hair. “For being gross, I guess. What did you want to talk to me about?”
There it was. A flash of…something clouded in his eyes.
Hope.He looked hopeful.
“Since filming’s over, I planned to take a vacation,” I said, feeling the nerves swirl more vigorously. “And I was wondering if maybe…if you…”
I was no stranger to rejection. But I realized how much I really wanted to spend more time with him. And the thought of him turning me down had me pausing and kind of…well, acting like he had when he’d first met me.
Oh, how the tables have turned.
“Wondering if I what?”
“If you’d come with me,” I blurted out, the words running together.
Kyler’s mouth formed a smalloas he looked at me. “Huh?”
“I want you to come on vacation with me,” I said, grabbing his hands. They were a bit sweaty. “Two weeks isn’t enough, Kyler. I want more.”
I’m not ready to say goodbye to you.
Gray eyes searched my face. “Do you think it’s a good idea? I mean, you’re the one who said not to make this complicated.”
