I wasn’t much of a museum-goer. History fascinated me, but I hated the crowds. With Kyler, though, I’d suck it up and go. Anything to keep him smiling in the same exact way he was right then; nose crinkled, eyes big and bright, and freckles on full display.
The history of the town could be felt by walking through it. I loved Greek mythology, and there were a lot of myths surrounding Mykonos. It was also the gateway to the island of Delos, which was the birthplace of the twins Apollo and Artemis from myth.
Before we left, I wanted to take a boat to Delos to see it.
“You know,” Kyler said, pulling me from my thoughts. “Assassin’s Creed wasn’t too far off. This place looks a lot like the Mykonos from the game.”
And with that, I laughed.
It even drew a chuckle, albeit small, from Gideon who walked behind us on the path.
En Plowas a small restaurant with covered outside seating. You could enjoy your meal while in the shade and take in the amazing view of the harbor. The place was literally right on the seafront. The sign with the café name was white with a blue sailboat on it. Very simple.
Many of the other restaurants we’d passed had been close to capacity. Everyone and their brother was out and roaming the streets, looking for a nice meal in between their shopping and sightseeing.
“Why are you frowning?” Kyler asked as we sat at the table nearest to the water.
“Either you’ve found a diamond in the rough with this place,” I said, motioning to the plethora of empty tables around us. “Or it’s a shithole.”
“Only one way to find out,” he retorted, grabbing a menu.
Gideon sat on the other side of Kyler, and before I could ask him why, the answer hit me. Kyler had chosen the side with nothing behind him but the water. Gideon had wanted to sit in the spot where he could keep an eye on what was behind me, all while making sure nothing was behind him. Smart.
But I doubted there’d be any kind of incident while we were in Greece. I hadn’t announced my plans for vacation, so unless someone had followed me or caught wind of me being there, the vultures—aka the paparazzi—were none the wiser. Same went for crazy-stalker fans.
The paparazzi had spotted me in the Addersfield airport, but they hadn’t known where I was going.
I didn’t mind fans spotting me while I was out and approaching for an autograph or a quick photo. I wasn’t a complete asshole and knew I owed a lot to them. Their support had kept me at the top of the hottest actor lists and in the spotlight. It was only the obsessive ones that freaked me the hell out; ones like Mary.
“Wow. No way.” Kyler grinned, crinkling his nose, as he scanned the menu. “There’s actually a dish calledMykonos Chicken Orgasm. I’m dead.” He started laughing so hard his eyes watered. “I have to take a pic to show the guys.”
Still giggling like a school boy, he took a picture of the menu and typed out a message before sending to his friends.
Moments later, his phone dinged back-to-back, and he showed me their responses. Brysen had sent the crying-laughing emoji and Royal responded with the little monkey emoji that was covering his mouth.
A waiter came to take our drink order. We all ordered coffee, and amidst looking over the menu, we enjoyed the sea breeze and the sight of sailboats drifting past us in the harbor. So much in Mykonos was white granite, and it created a stark contrast with the blue water.
“Ah shit,” Kyler said.
“What?”
He looked up from his phone and handed it over to me. When I saw what was on the screen, my face heated and my breaths came a bit quicker.
The headline read:Declan Price and Mystery Man.
Above the article was a picture from the airport of me and Kyler. I skimmed the article, rolling my eyes at the load of bullshit.
“I’m sorry,” Kyler whispered, dropping his gaze.
“Don’t be,” I said, handing him back his phone. “They think you’re my brother. I haven’t said anything about my personal life, so they’re always trying to find out shit about it.”
“Wow. Your brother.” Kyler made a face. “Not sure which one I prefer; being your brother or your friend.”
“Can we not talk about this?” Gideon asked.
Both Kyler and I grinned.
The food was actually great. I ordered a dish made up of eggs, strips of meat, and a Greek salad. Kyler had ordered the same as me and moaned as he chewed his food. He made it increasingly frustrating to keep my hands off him. The bastard.
