“Montgomery,” Courtney said, crossing her arms as she stood under the archway to the kitchen. She stood at five foot ten and had long legs and a tight body with a lean waist, perky breasts, and long luscious black hair. She looked more like a model than a real estate agent.
I didn’t have to be straight to know the woman was drop-dead gorgeous.
“Hey, Courtney.”
“How long are you staying?” she asked, not trying at all to hide her displeasure.
“Court,” Zane said, walking over and sliding his arms around her. “It’s not Monty’s fault for… for Vegas.”
She glared at him and jerked out of his hold. “Oh, you mean when you banged that slut in your hotel room?”
“Slut,” Anton said, waddling into the room. He had a full head of dark hair and the biggest brown eyes I’d ever seen. Eyes that grew even bigger when he saw me. “Ty-ty!”
“Yeah, little man,” I said, going over to him and swooping him up into my arms. “Ty-ty’s here.”
Zane laughed, then tried to stifle it when Courtney shot him another glare. The guy was on thin ice. While they quietly bickered, I bounced Anton on my hip. He giggled and slapped at my chest.
“Ready to go to lunch?” Zane asked me.
I nodded. “I’m starving.”
“Come here, sweet pea,” Courtney said, taking Anton from my arms. He pouted and reached for me, then got fussy when she ignored him. She shot Zane a look. “If I find out you go anywhere other than the restaurant, there will be hell to pay.”
“Trust me, Court. We’re going to eat, then coming back. Remember what Dr. Edwards said. Trust is key in a relationship.”
Zane had mentioned they’d been seeing a marriage counselor. As angry as Courtney was at him, she didn’t want to give up on their marriage any more than he did.
“And you’ve broken my trust,” she said. “It’s going to take a while to earn it back.”
“I know,” Zane said in a sad tone.
After getting into his Mustang, we drove to a Thai restaurant not far from his house that had become a favorite of mine the past few times I’d come to Seattle. It was located near the community gardens and had basic décor. Easily looked over. You wouldn’t expect it to be some of the best damn Thai food you’d ever eaten. It was a hidden gem for sure.
Once inside and seated, the waitress took our drink orders and gave us menus to look over. I already knew what I was getting—I was a total creature of habit when it came to food—but I spent a few minutes glancing at the options anyway.
“What’s new with you?” Zane asked, folding up his menu and setting it aside. “How’s coaching going?”
“It’s great. We lost our game last week, but it was to a tough school with some boys twice our size. The team’s workin’ their ass off.”
“I miss football.” Zane leaned against the back of the booth, a smile tugging at his lips as he remembered our golden days. “I’ll never forget the homecoming game of senior year. We kicked Parkview’s ass, then went back to your place and had a huge party. I got so wasted and puked all over Samantha Bennett’s skimpy dress.”
“I’m sure it’s memorable for Samantha too.”
He chuckled. “I made it up to her.”
“Yeah, andthat’swhy it’s memorable tome.” I had walked into my room and had seen Zane eating Samantha out on my bed. One thing was certain, though. Zane had impressive tongue action. I could appreciate it… even if I’d wanted to burn the sheets afterward.
“Sorry about that,” Zane said, giving me an impish grin. “How’s Quinn doing? Has he warmed up to you at all?”
I had told Zane a little about me and Quinn… but I’d left out that we were banging.
The waitress chose that moment to come take our orders. I ordered the pad thai with chicken and cashews, and it made me think of Quinn. He couldn’t eat Asian food because a lot of the dishes had nuts and cross-contamination was too risky, even if he ordered something without them.
“We’re friendly,” I responded, once the waitress left again.
“How friendly?” Zane wiggled his brows suggestively. My nonresponse told him everything he needed to know. His eyes lit up, and he released a light laugh. “Shit, man. You’re fucking him, aren’t you? I looked up the guy on Facebook. He’s kinda hot.”
I blinked in surprise. “You looked him up?”
