Jack wraps his arms around my neck and glides with me through the pool. With each second in the water, I feel my tight muscles begin to relax. I didn’t realize how tense I was until now. Hot springs are just as magical as the man in my arms.

We come to a stop when his back presses against the rock wall. I comb my fingers through his hair and kiss from his lips to his collarbone.

“I want you, Luka,” he breathily says.

“Right here? Now?”

Jack nods and crushes his mouth to mine again, guiding me backward in the water. My legs hit a portion of rock jutting up a bit, and he pushes me onto what feels like a ledge. My body is still submerged from the chest down as I sit on it.

“Wait,” I say as he straddles my waist. “Won’t it hurt you?”

Another first for me: I’ve never fucked in water.

“Stop worrying about me so much.” Jack rolls his hips forward, and I bite back a groan as his dick glides across mine. “I never do what I don’t want to. This, with you, is what I want. So get out of your head and fuck me until our moans bounce off these cave walls.”

“Well, since you asked so nicely.” I smirk at him as I reach down and position my dick at his opening. He wastes no time before sinking down on me. The sudden sensation of being cushioned and pulled into his warmth makes me unexpectedly groan. “Ah, fuck.”

“Such a naughty mouth you have,” Jack says as he starts a slow grind on me.

As he rides me, I lean my head back against the wall and stare at him, lips parted and heart beating erratically. I run a hand up his bare chest and smile when I feel his heart beating just as quickly as mine. The natural light in the cave dances across his pale skin, and when our gazes meet, his eyes remind me of sapphires instead of ice, the blue shining as if every gem in the world is present in them.

Neither of us lasts long.

When Jack comes down on me harder, his moans intensifying, I stroke his cock. He comes within seconds, and as his ass muscles clench around me, my orgasm rocks into me too. My whole body tightens before euphoria washes over me, and I can’t control my loud whimpers as they come spilling out just like my cock is doing inside him.

“Sex with you is perfect,” he says, slumping against me.

I pull him to my chest and nuzzle the side of his head. “I feel the same about you.”

It’s not just the sex, though, that makes me hold him tighter, that makes my chest ache and soothe at the same time as he brushes his lips across my temple. I press my face into his soft hair and breathe him in. The realization that I’m falling for him slams into me so hard and fast that if I wasn’t sitting, I would’ve stumbled back from the force of it.

But I push it from my mind, refusing to think on it a moment longer.

If only I could do the same for my heart.

Chapter Seven

After soaking in the hot spring for a while, we dry off and dress before walking back to Jack’s main living area. Even though most of the furniture is made of ice, there’s also comfort items like a pillow and blanket for his bed, as well as things to help pass the time, like leather-bound journals, an old deck of cards, and books.

“What’s this?” I ask, spotting some kind of jewel on a nightstand made of both ice and wood.

Jack appears at my side and picks it up, holding it out in front of me. An oval-shaped, pale blue jewel hangs from a leather strap. “The crystal tear of an ice phoenix, freely given upon its last dying breath. Or so the legends say. It was my mother’s.” A faraway look appears in his eyes as he lightly touches the stone. “It’s meant to bring healing energy and peace to those who possess it. But for me? It brings the memory of home. Of love.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, how did your mom die?” Right as the question leaves my lips, I regret it. “Sorry. You don’t have to answer that. I’m too nosy.”

“It’s okay.” Jack places the necklace back on the nightstand before going over to sit on an ice stool. I take the one in front of his. It’s a lot sturdier than I thought it would be. “Unlike gods and minor deities, nymphs aren’t immortal. They don’t outwardly age, yet their souls do. While they live much longer than humans, their life span is limited. My mother began to weaken as I grew older, each year losing more and more of her strength, until one day she collapsed.”

A tear slips from Jack’s eye, freezing once it reaches the corner of his mouth. He wipes it away and clears his throat. “She was bedridden for days, and when she was at her weakest, she gave me the necklace, telling me to hold it close whenever I was afraid. She lost consciousness shortly after and passed on from this life the next day. Lying in bed, appearing so young and beautiful, she looked like she was just asleep, Luka.”

Another tear streams down his cheek, and I stand from my stool and drop down in front of him, wrapping my arms around his waist. He returns my embrace and releases a shuddering breath.

“You’d think after so many centuries, the sorrow would have lessened,” he says. “But I often think of her and wish I could see her just one more time, to tell her about my adventures throughout the years. She would’ve liked you.”

Pain grips my sternum, and I kiss his shoulder, hoping it provides him a little comfort.

“Are you hungry?” he asks, gently pulling from my arms and standing. With his face turned away from me, he wipes at his eyes. “I can make us something to eat.”

“Twigs?” I say, hoping it makes him laugh.
