The avatar of Gluttony blushed a little. “I can’t help it. Life is so unpredictable for us. Sharing meals is one of the few times we get to be together as a family. You never know when the day will come when of us isn’t here.”

Someone cleared their throat, drawing our attention. Warrin stood under the archway that led into the dining area. He fit in with the brothers perfectly with his massive body, muscles, and height.

“Hey, man.” Raiden pushed to his feet and grabbed an extra plate from the cabinet. “Have a seat. There’s plenty of food to go around.”

“Thank you.” Warrin sat across from me at the table, a flush going up his pale neck. In the little time I’d known him, I learned he was awkward in social situations. He was much more confident with a sword in his hand and facing down enemies.

Bellamy returned to his normal flirty self as breakfast drew on. And when he looked at me, the color of his eyes shifted to emerald green. “How cute. You two are practically mated already. His scent is all over you.”

Castor grinned. “Well, Ididask him to marry me last night.”

Gray, who was falling asleep, released a quick snore, and his head shot up. “Huh? Who’s getting married?”

Simon choked on his coffee as he laughed. Galen smiled at his mate before dabbing at the grape jelly at the edge of Simon’s lips. He’d slathered it on the biscuits.

“A congratulations is in order, then.” Alastair sipped his tea and placed it back down. Though he seemed pleased by the news, there was a hint of sadness present on his face too. Was he still grieving the loss of the man he loved? “Will you have the ceremony here?”

“Don’t know.” Castor peered at me. “I’d like your family to be there. Your brother doesn’t approve of us being together, so I don’t know if it’s even possible that he’d attend.”

“I’ll talk to him.” I rested my hand on Castor’s leg, touched that he wanted Tatsuya to be there. Because I wanted him there too.

Warrin had stopped eating and stared at his plate. I couldn’t tell if he was upset or not by the news. Even though we’d mutually agreed to call off our marriage, it was still strange for me to end one engagement and almost immediately dive into another. I couldn’t imagine how it felt for him.

“Prince Warrin?” Alastair asked.

Warrin’s blue eyes lifted. “Just Warrin, please.”

Alastair nodded once. “My brothers and I are in your debt. You are more than welcome to stay here as long as you need to. And if there’s ever anything we can do to repay you, don’t hesitate to ask.”

I got the feeling Alastair didn’t like being in anyone’s debt. Probably due to his Pride.

Breakfast was interrupted by an unannounced visitor. Castor tensed beside me as a man with white hair and gold-flecked blue eyes came in through the patio doors. Large white wings folded behind him. Although I’d never met him, I knew exactly who he was.

“Lazarus,” Alastair said, standing from the table.

The angel regarded me with disdain before doing the same to Warrin. He focused back on Alastair. “We need to speak without the presence of outsiders.”

“Kyo is my destined mate,” Castor said, his tone venomous. “He’s not an outsider. And Warrin is an ally. He provided aid during the battle. You know, the one you were too busy to help us with.”

“Watch yourself, child.” Lazarus glared at him. “I have not come to play games.”

“Who said we’re playing?”

“Enough, Cas.” Alastair’s tone held a clear warning. It caused my lover to press his lips together and glower at the angel, silent but no less angry. “Join me in my study. We’ll speak there.”

“We will speak here,” Lazarus said, though he didn’t seem too happy about it with the way he curled his nose at the table of food. Did human food disgust him? Or maybe it was just us who did. “Where’s Envy?”

“In bed,” Bellamy answered. “If you value your life, don’t wake him.”

“There’s no time to wait for him.” Lazarus emitted a sigh. “I come bearing bad news. Very bad news. Asa has persuaded the Nephilim to fight for him, though it took very little convincing.”

“How many?” Alastair asked.

“All of them.”

“Allof them?” Raiden frowned.

“Well, apart from the ones on Baxter’s island and the survivors from Sirena’s group,” the angel responded. “Asa sent demons all over the earth in search of the Nephilim. He was doing this while you were fighting Phoenix’s army. I received word this morning that all have sworn allegiance to him. The few who refused were killed.”
