“Touch,”Lust whispered.
“You better not be trying to escape,” I said as I stepped onto the balcony.
He smirked at me over his shoulder. “I thought we’ve settled this. I’ll never run from you, sweet Bellamy.”
“Funny how that endearment sounds so taunting when coming from you.” I slipped my arms around him from behind and lowered my face to his nape. He smelled like my own personal paradise. A smoky spiciness that made my soul hum.
“Because it is.” His tail caressed my leg. “You reek of smoke and cheap perfume. I’m assuming you had fun at the club.”
“Is that jealousy I hear?” I turned him to face me.
Phoenix snarled his upper lip. “Definitely not.”
“I didn’t touch anyone,” I said, skimming my fingertips along his sharp jawline, then sliding them to the collar around his neck. My cock stirred. My possessiveness over him was a force to be reckoned with.
“Like I care if you did.” Phoenix looked away. I noticed the swallow in his throat though—and the slight furrow of his brow.
“I belong to you.” I tipped his chin up, and my chest warmed when his eyes met mine. “Not only my soul. My body too.”
Lust had made it clear he wanted no one but the demon in front of me.
“Someone’s getting sappy,” Phoenix muttered. “I prefer the bloodthirsty Nephilim who used to give me death threats.”
“No you don’t.” I lightly licked his bottom lip. He shuddered. “You like this. You like when I’m nice to you. And that selfish part of you is happy that I’m yours.”
“Gods, you’re so infuriating,” he whispered against my lips before kissing them.
His fingers weaved through the back of my hair and gripped it tighter. His body hardened against mine. Desire rolled off him, but something else did too. Something deeper than the urge to fuck and be fucked. He kissed me deeply. Fervently.
Raiden had said I seemed happier. I definitely felt that way. Did Phoenix feel it too? Our fated mate bond went deep, but I felt a shift inside me… like I was beginning to choose him rather than merely follow a destined path.
“We’re waiting on you,”Alastair projected into my head.
“I’m busy.”I continued kissing Phoenix and pushed my hips into him.
“You can fuck your mate afterward,”he responded.“Now get in here. Might as well bring the demon too.”
“Goddammit,” I said, pulling from his lips. “Duty calls.”
“Alastair?” Phoenix guessed, and then he sighed when I nodded. “What does he want now? I’ve told him everything I know.”
“Have you?” I asked before I could stop myself.
“Still doubting me, I see.” Phoenix stepped away from me. “Fair enough. I’ve not done much to warrant your trust yet.”
“You rescued me. That deserves some trust.”
Phoenix averted his gaze. But not before I saw a shadow pass over his face. “Better not keep your brother waiting.”

Alastair’s room exuded luxury and class. A large vanity sat against the wall beside his massive walk-in closet, and there was a sitting area next to the floor-to-ceiling windows that had a leather couch and armchairs, as well as a TV mounted on the wall.
Where I had a view of the mountains, he had one of the sea. The dark water was so still beneath the moonlight.
“Tell me everything,” Alastair said, standing by the window. Instead of being perfectly fixed with no strand out of place, his white-blond hair lay flat, and he wore a dark purple robe that fell open at his chest. Modesty and elegance were his thing. So him looking so disheveled worried me.
“Not until you tell us what’s wrong,” I said. “What’s up?”
