“You won’t.” Especially since he’d already shown me such care, taking his time to ensure my body could take him with ease.

A morsel of guilt settled over my chest. Elasus and I were about to share one of the most intimate acts, yet he didn’t truly know me. I had tried to explain it to him, but it was something that must be seen, for the mortal mind had limitations as to what could be believed by words alone. Like his inability to imagine a man soaring high above the clouds. Angels, demons, and Nephilim were unknown words in his language.

But in that moment, whether he understood or not, I wanted to tell him everything.

“Elasus,” I said, as he gently withdrew his fingers and settled between my legs. “There is a thing you must know before we… before we do this.”

“You are a Theban, aren’t you?” he asked with the makings of a smile twitching at his lips.

I chuckled despite that weight of guilt. “No. I am no Theban. I’m not a Corinthian either.”

“How fortunate.” His hands slid up my thighs as I wrapped my legs around his waist. “However, even if you were my enemy, I would still hold you like this.” He leaned down to kiss me and let his lips linger close to mine as he murmured, “I would still kiss you just as softly.”

A crack formed in my chest. “And if I wasn’t fully mortal?”

“You have already told me your father came from the heavens. My earlier statement holds true. God or man, it matters not.” Elasus rested his palm over my heart. “In our short time together, I have become fond of you, Kallias. I care not if you have a gifted bloodline that heals wounds or if you fly like a bird. It isyouthat’s captivated me.”

“You’ve captivated me too.”

“That is all I need to know.” He slid a hand to my nape. “Remember what you told me. You and I are all that exist tonight. Let go of everything else.”

So I did. I shoved down my guilt and indecision over how to tell him and instead lost myself in everything that was Elasus. His scent. His warmth. The crinkle of his eyes when he smiled down at me between kisses. The light freckle above his lip. The callous of his hands as they explored my body. And his voice… gods, his voice. It touched my ears like honey.

He used the oil to slick his cock before positioning himself at my opening. Our gazes locked as he slowly eased forward. His lips softly parted as a moan slipped past them.

“You…” Elasus stilled inside of me and dragged in a shaky breath. “You feel incredible.”

“As do you.” I wrapped my arms around his torso. “I need more.”

There was a slight ache as he seated himself more inside me, but it quickly faded, either due to my healing powers or his careful preparation. Possibly both. I reveled in the fullness of him and the light groans vibrating in his throat.

“Kallias,” he said on a moan, rolling his hips harder into me.

With each thrust, the threads holding me together unraveled. I opened myself to him, letting him see all those vulnerable places I’d never shown to anyone—places I hadn’t known existed. But he had found them.

My fingertips dug into his lower back, willing him to take me harder. He did. Neither of us lasted for long. The blazing pleasure was too great, formed from our mutual physical desires but strengthened by something else entirely.

Elasus slammed one hand beside my head in the grass and shuddered. “I… gods.”

Euphoric pleasure took him then. It soon consumed me along with him, burning both of us until we melted together like metal still hot from the forge. The force of my release had me crying out so loud I was certain he’d gotten his earlier wish about letting the nearby men hear me. He was less vocal than me, but he groaned low in my ear as his hips jerked.

The waves of pleasure started to recede, yet the elation they’d brought remained. My feelings toward him intensified as our heavy-lidded gazes met, our bodies still quaking from release. Fear and exhilaration both churned in my core. My eyes stung again, but not from sadness. It came from something else entirely.

“Elasus.” I whimpered at the depth of emotion balling in my chest—in my heart. “I need…” But I didn’t knowwhatI needed. It was a desperate, unknown feeling that had me shaking.

“Tell me,” he said, peering at me through dark lashes.

An uncontrollable urge slammed into me. I threw my arms around his neck and tugged him closer. My teeth pressed to his throat. Before I realized my intention, I bit down hard enough to break the skin, tasting his blood.

Elasus grunted, shocked, but then he relaxed against me, moaning softly. His softening cock slipped from me as he cupped the back of my head, tilting his back to give me better access.

My actions confused me. Frightened as well. Yet, the taste of him? He truly was my ambrosia. My eyes rolled back as I drank from him. Instantly, that anxious knot in the pit of my stomach loosened. My soul calmed. After taking a little bit of his blood, I licked the wound and closed it with healing magic.

And then, upon realizing what I’d just done, I scrambled away from him.

“Kallias?” He placed a hand on the grass to steady himself as he blinked at me, disoriented. He lifted his other hand to his neck, touching the mark I’d left there.

“Forgive me. I… I’m not sure…. Oh, gods, Elasus.” I brought my knees up and buried my face in my hands. “What is happening to me? Why did I bite you?”
