“I fell.”
He sighed and clasped my hand between both of his. Warmth was accompanied by a faint glow that spread through my wrist and up my forearm. He’d healed me with his magic. “There. All better.”
“Thanks, Doc.” I rested my no-longer-injured hand on his neck and trailed the tip of my finger along the base of his exposed throat. He’d changed into a tan-colored shirt that fell open at the top, the ties hanging loose. “How was your day?”
“It went well. Between crafting healing tonics and restocking herbs, Thane and I worked more on the protection stones. They’re not as powerful as I’d prefer for them to be.” He looked so damn tired. “It’s all due to the gems. They can only hold so much power before they crack, so they’ll protect against one strong attack but nothing more.”
“Once is more than enough.” Maddox rested a hand on Briar’s shoulder and massaged. “No more talk of work for tonight. Rest.”
“I don’t take orders from you, knight.” The affection in Briar’s voice was unmistakable. As Maddox dug his fingers deeper into the muscles of his shoulder, he closed his eyes and softly groaned. “But I suppose I’ll allow it this once.”

I rode Maddox hard that night. Guess all it took was a bit of jealousy about his brothel days to bring out my inner power bottom.
