I was shaking, and Jinx tilted his head curiously, looking down at me.

“Gianna is missing and…”

For some reason, I didn’t want to tell him about his son. He responded poorly when Gianna told him. It was clear he didn’t want the baby. Maybe it was better to keep my mouth shut.

“And?” he said expectantly.

“And,” I said, straightening my spine and poking him hard in the chest. “You are an asshole.”

He laughed in my face, stepping into his boots and reaching over to grab his motorcycle jacket and helmet.

I stared at him, unsure what exactly he intended. A sly look sparkled in his eyes before he leaned down and scooped me over his shoulder. I screamed, battering his back and ass, trying to free myself. I couldn’t get down, and his rumbling laughter made me so angry I saw white spots.

“Let me the fuck down!” I began pounding on his back, but received a hard smack across my ass. I was still in scrubs, covered in blood and fluids, yet he acted as if my attire was the most normal thing in the world.

I couldn’t hear anything but the whiny sound of his bike as he turned it on and sat on the seat with my body still draped overhim. I couldn’t see anyone around his home, and I cursed myself for having driven out to the middle of nowhere. I should have anticipated Jinx being a crazy fucking mad hatter, but my anger got the best of me.

We were riding through the night. I could see lights flash by me in a blur, and the wind smacked me in the face at this speed. He had one hand wrapped around my hips and one on the handlebars.

“Where are you taking me, you psycho?”

Again, the reverberation of laughter shook my body, but I stayed still, clinging onto Jinx in fear that I would fall off and smash into the fucking pavement. Shuddering, an image of me falling face-first and sliding across the gravel popped into my mind and shook my whole body.

I had begun to submit to the fact that I was helpless, like an ornament on this man’s arm, but then the motorcycle slowed and the humming sound stopped.

“Where are we?” I said, fear settling in my gut.

Jinx chucked me off his shoulder, and I landed on my ass…hard and right in the dirt.

I blinked, confusion and anger overwhelming me. I felt blind. The night sky twinkled above me, but the lights felt like they were flickering. We were in the woods, somewhere deep within the forest. It brought memories to the surface, and I swallowed.

“What is this? Why take me here?”

Jinx leaned down, bending on his knees to stare at me. “You wanted to find your sister, right?”

“What do you mean? Why here? Cut the crap, Jinx. Take me back now.”

He shook his head slowly, a smile spreading across his face. Before I could track his hands, he reached forward and gripped my top by the neckline, holding me against him as he stood. I yanked at his hands, growling in frustration.

“Get the fuck off me.”

“Nirvana. You are so cute when you fight.”

I spat at him, but my scrubs were slowly being ripped from my body. The scrub top tore like paper, and I fell backward and hit the ground.

“What the fuck!”

Laughter surrounded me, and he tied my shirt around his fists, like a fighter.

“What kind of fucked up game are you playing? My sister is missing. Yourgirlfriend.”

He laughed harder, like this situation had just turned into his favorite comedy show.

“Oh, Nirvana.”

He leaned down to brush my cheek before trailing his hands down and tearing my scrub bottoms off my legs. I was left in my underwear. Why was I always stripped bare when he was around?

“No, Jinx. We have to find Gigi. This isn’t a joke. She is missing.”
