“This is a good start, but we need canned food, some way to wash our clothes and water to bathe with,” Zoe mused.“It will be good if we find a stream somewhere near our base.”
“Your instincts haven’t led us astray yet,” Grace reminded her.It was a bit uncanny how Zoe knew exactly where to go.They’d avoided trouble most of the way.It was impossible not to run into crazies at some point, as their most recent clash had proven.
“Says the girl who got shot in the leg,” Zoe pointed out.
“We won’t let our guard down like that again,” Amaros said.Again, his tone turned grim as he returned to his sentinel mode.“I can see a supermarket and pharmacy over there,” he told them.
They looked to where he was pointing to see the buildings were just down the street.Only a few cars were parked here and there. No one stirred as they drove the short distance to their next destination.
Grace had pocketed another knife from the sports store. It was a far larger switchblade than her tiny pen knife. She wanted to be prepared for the next bunch of losers who targeted them.Zoe was shaken up from killing the old woman.Grace was pretty sure she would be able to use her knife if she had to.It hadn’t bothered her to smash the branch into the dude who’d chased after her.
Amaros had decided to arm himself with more than just his sword. He’d chosen an arsenal of guns and ammo as well.Everything was covered with a tarp, but he kept his eye on the truck as they went shopping.
The girls stocked up on food and everything else they would need, including soap, shampoo, conditioner and other feminine products. They didn’t get sick with colds or viruses, but they grabbed some medical supplies from the pharmacy.Amaros helped haul everything to the truck until it was full.“We can’t fit anything else in there,” he announced, pulling the tarp back into place.
“We’ve got enough to last for a while,” Zoe figured.“We can always scout for more when we run out.”
“It’s lucky Amaros doesn’t need to eat or drink,” Grace said.“We’d have to scrounge a lot more often if he and his squad guzzled down our supplies.”
Amaros didn’t remind them that their group would become a lot larger once he and his men went in search of the other cambions. There was no guarantee the other females would be joining their group.“How far away is our base now?”he asked, taking the wheel again.
“It’s not far,” Zoe replied.“It’s maybe an hour away.”
“How did you know we were heading for the Adirondack Mountains?”Grace asked.
“I saw a tourist sign yesterday and it sparked a vision,” Zoe explained.“I saw these mountains and the way to get to our destination.”
Amaros was glad he’d put snow chains in the back of the truck. They would need them once winter set in.The roads were treacherous enough now due to how narrow they were at times.Tensing each time they had to go around a tight turn, it was always a relief when they weren’t greeted with an ambush.
Chapter Fifteen

“WE’RE ALMOST THERE,” Zoe said in anticipation just over an hour later.
“Good,” Grace said in relief.“I’m tired of driving all night and day.”
