“Yes, that sounds amazing. A little cold, but amazing.”

“Have you talked to the guys? You might want to let them know it’s snowing so they can watch the weather.” He walked over to the railing and looked out at the river. We were both getting wet but neither of us cared. This was all new and exciting and we wanted to experience it.

“No, I’ll send them a picture.” I took out my phone and took a selfie of the two of us and a few other pictures of the view and sent them to Mateo and Jeremy. The phone rang almost immediately with a video call, and I answered it and hoped the signal was enough. “Hey, guys.”

“Devon, how’s it going in the cabin?” Mateo asked before Jeremy pushed him aside and took his phone.

“Hey, are you having fun? How much is it snowing?”

“Hey, Jer, it’s so much fun. We’ve been staying busy but doing lots of fun stuff. Did you know Johnny can cook?”

“Hell, no, I didn’t know. Now we can make him cook for us all.”

“Not happening,” Johnny said from behind me.

“Hey, Johnny. Were you surprised and are you having fun at the cabin?” Jeremy asked.

“It’s been so perfect, and yes, I was surprised and it’s been lots of fun. When are you guys joining us?” Johnny asked.

“Hopefully it will be the middle of next week. If you get as much snow as they’re predicting I’d rather not risk it, but if it melts between storms then we’ll be there.”

“They said we might get a foot of snow in this storm,” I said. “Isn’t that crazy? I didn’t think too much about snow, it seems too early for it.”

“Apparently not,” Jeremy said.

“Have you been working at your parents’?” I asked.

“Not yet, but the next few days we will be.”

“You sound happy,” I said and looked right at Jeremy.

“You do too. I’m glad it’s all working out,” he said.

“We just wanted you to watch the weather. Don’t head up here before you check the weather and the roads,” Johnny said.

“Will do. You guys have fun,” Mateo said before they hung up.

Johnny stood next to me and for a few more minutes we stood there in the snow and rain just watching it. Just then my phone rang with a number I didn’t recognize. “Hello?”

“Hello, this is Rex Barrett, you rented the cabin from me.”

“Oh, yes, this is Devon Grimes. Is there a problem?”

“Hi, Devon. No, not at all. I just wanted to call since I saw that you’re getting a little unexpected weather. There is a generator and if you look in the binder on the kitchen counter, the instructions are there. Don’t worry, the cabin is completely safe and there are emergency rations stored in the pantry if you get stuck and can’t get to the store.” He was so calm as my breath sped up, and I worried being snowed in might not be as fun as I thought it would. Warm fingers wrapped around mine and took the phone from me.

“Sir, this is Johnny Brown, can you repeat that please?” He listened and stayed completely calm, while I tried not to freak out. “I saw the generator, and we noticed the binder. We’ll look through it and make sure we know where everything is. Thanks for calling and we’ll keep in touch.” He hung up and pulled me into his arms.

“Should we leave?”

“No, we’re fine. They’re used to getting a lot more snow than what we’re expecting, and he said they pay for them to clear the road up to the cabin so by tomorrow the road will be clear even if we do get snow.”

“We have stew to eat because my boyfriend is amazing,” I said.

“Yes, we do, and we have lots of games to keep us busy and like Rex said, there’s everything we need here to make it through even if we lose power or somehow get stuck. But that’s not going to happen,” Johnny said and right then I would have believed him if he said the moon was made out of cheese. It also chose that very moment for the rain to turn completely to snow. “Well, would you look at that.”

“It’s beautiful,” I said, and I really would have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t soaking wet and freezing my ass off.
