“Do they still do that? It sounds fun.”
“I’m not sure. Maybe for Halloween.”
“We should go, you could be Frank,” Devon said making us both laugh.
“I’m not sure I have enough confidence for that,” I admitted.
“You could totally pull it off,” he said and rested his head on my shoulder. We laughed and tried to sing along, and I loved every second of it. Especially when Devon tried to do the Time Warp.
“I think I’ve got it,” he said, and really didn’t have it at all but he was having fun, and we were both laughing more than we ever had. “What do you think?”
“I think you’re perfect, and this is how you do the Time Warp,” I said before jumping up and trying it myself.

“Well, I guess we know whyDancing with the Starshasn’t called yet,” Johnny said as he plopped down on the couch.
“We are not made for dancing,” I said. “But it was fun.” We watched the rest of the movie, and it got more and more weird until the end and even then, it didn’t disappoint.
Johnny hopped up and held out his hand. “Help me start dinner.”
“What are we making?” I asked.
“Well, I noticed we have everything for tacos so why don’t we keep it simple,” he said and started taking everything out of the refrigerator.
“As you know it was one of the few things I knew everything we’d need, and that I knew I could cook if you couldn’t.”
“You can’t go wrong with tacos.” He started cooking the ground beef and directed me to chop the lettuce and shred the cheese while he fried the tortillas. I typically hated cooking and avoided it anytime I could, but this was fun. Johnny was in charge and when I finished one task, he gave me another. Each one was easy and made it strangely exciting to see how it would all taste.
“I can’t remember the last time I had homemade tacos,” I said as I tore off sheets of paper towels to drain the tortillas.
“We should make them again with Mateo and Jeremy get here,” Johnny said.
“I forgot about that. Maybe we should go get supplies before they arrive so we can all stay as long as we want and enjoy it,” I said.
“That’s a good idea. I can make a list of what we’d need for a few meals, and we could send them a list too. It wouldn’t hurt them to pitch in.” He put the edge of the tortilla into the oil he’d heated in a pan and after making sure it was hot enough, put it in to fry.
“I like how you think.” We both worked together and started eating tacos as they were done. It was very normal and probably boring or mundane to most people. But for me it was normal and nice to spend time with my boyfriend and just do regular, boyfriend things. Unable to resist I kissed his cheek. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For just being here,” I said.
“Did you think I wouldn’t want to spend time here?” Johnny looked up from the tortilla he was frying and snapped the tongs together.
“I wasn’t sure, but I’m really glad you did.” I watched as he took the tortilla out of the pan and set it on the paper towel before wrapping me up in his arms.
“I love you,” he whispered. “I’m really glad we came here.”
“I’m really glad you can cook,” I said and offered him a bite of a taco.
“Me too or we’d be starved by now.”
“I love you too.” I kissed him then and pressed my tongue into his mouth. Our food was forgotten as he turned off the stove without moving away from me.
We rarely had privacy on the road. Even when we shared a hotel room there was always the chance of a knock on the door or a frantic phone call about something that needed to be taken care of immediately. But not here. It was just him and me, and lots of privacy. “Fuck me, baby,” I groaned and humped his leg.
