He thought he knew most of it but was surprised by some things. There was no law against Alpha and Omega marriage without the bondmate status being verified by a certified M.D. He had not known that. But the Omega had to have permission to enter into the marriage from his parent, guardian or the warden of the farm where he resided.
However, if a mate-bond had been formed, no parent, guardian or warden could defy it. It was above all law, a sacred pact.
Thorne took no time getting an appointment with a law firm for early the next day to make his marriage claim.
Whether or not Varian Vandergale would listen to him, or to the will of his own son, remained to be seen.
Thorne searched for and read stories about unusual pairings and how they came to be. He read up on every possible combination and the stories that told about how those pairings worked or failed to work.
He researched long into the night. It was the only way he could keep control of his agony, his hurt, and his rage.
When he finally climbed into bed, the room felt far too empty and the bed was cold.
He lay awake fantasizing about storming the Vandergale mansion and taking Kris by force. That scenario was the only comfort he found that night.

“If you sign this form, you are stating the Omega in question, Kristofer Vandergale, gives consent.”
“Will my status as dangerous hinder this process?”
“It shouldn’t if the Omega has given consent. Your signature verifies this. If it is to be discovered fraudulent and the Omega is being forced, you could do a month in jail for it.”
“A month?”
“I know. It’s a bit harsh I think.”
“Hand it over,” Thorne said through gritted teeth.
The form was ten pages long. Luckily, Kris had left his belongings behind, including ID, and Thorne was able to provide the numbers the form required. But he did not have identification information on Varian Vandergale, the parent. For the time being, those spaces were left blank.
It worried him to leave some of the form’s questions unanswered. It was even worse when the attorney said, “Processing takes two to five days.”
“That long? I thought I could get a formal claim by later today.”
“Sorry.”
Thorne wanted to kick something. “I’ll pay extra if you can put a rush on it.”
“That can be done if an Alpha is about to go into the Burn.”
“If I say my cycle is due in two days, will that help?”
The man sighed. “I can put that in the letter. Usually a doctor’s note accompanies such a request.”
“I don’t have it but I’ll see if I can get one.”
“Why the rush? Is the Omega in danger?”
Thorne shook his head. “Maybe. I don’t know.”
“They may be less busy in the department today and not require the doctor’s note. I’ll put a rush on it. If they push it through, you might have it by tomorrow or early the following morning. I’ll keep you informed.”
Disappointed, Thorne left the office building and went to his truck and sat staring at nothing for a long time.
He missed Kris more than he could comprehend. The pain of it was wrenching. His stomach was in knots and he hadn’t eaten all day.
He thought again and again about going up to the Vandergale front door and demanding to speak to Varian. But all the rational voices in his head warned him not to do it too soon. When he did confront the man, he’d have a legal claim in hand. Without that, any confrontation might make matters worse than they already were and ruin his chances of winning Kris forever.
