“Yes.”
I watched the small conversation unfold with ease. The Omega did not seem nervous at all to be talking to an Alpha. In fact, in his job, he seemed perfectly well-trained and at ease. And safe.
The Omega stood and led us to a door that opened onto another hall.
“You may go on in. First room on the left, please.”
I looked up at Orion. “You’re going with me?”
“It’s our policy that Omega patients are accompanied to the exam rooms,” the Omega receptionist replied before Orion could speak. “If you would like privacy, you may ask him to wait outside.”
“Not necessary,” I grumbled.
The Omega continued to give us his pretty smile. He was all done up, every hair in place, his suit perfectly fitted and a dash of makeup in all the right places. Beside him, I felt like a slob.
“You will be treated with the utmost respect, privacy and dignity,” the Omega assured me. “The doctor is my husband and I can assure you he is the best at what he does.”
Nothing but the best for Orion. He would not have hired anyone less talented or educated.
Orion and I entered the room, which was a typical doctor’s office exam room with a couple of chairs, a counter with a sink, and an exam table with sterile paper covering it. I had been in enough of these types of rooms in the past months to be utterly sick of them.
“This doctor doesn’t just do blood tests,” I observed aloud.
“No. He is my doctor and the very best. He will take the blood and do the test himself.”
“Oh.”
Orion took a chair. I sat on the table with my feet hanging off. In a very short time, an Alpha male entered. He looked young but his hair was gray at the sides and pulled back in a tail. He wore a white lab coat.
“Orion! Good to see you!” He held out his hand and the two Alphas shook as if they were old friends.
“What is going on? You have an Omega you want tested for a mate-bond?”
“Yes?”
“And he’s not bonded to you.”
“No.” Orion caught my eye. “He’s from Zilly’s.”
“Ah yes, you are the owner now. I heard about your father and I’m so sorry.”
“Thank you.”
“So you inherited the farm and this Omega is from there?” The doctor turned his head, addressing me now.
“Yes,” I swallowed.
“I’m Doctor Wilde.” He held out his hand. I did not take it.
He glanced down at his tablet. “I see. Holland is your name. All right then.” He read a little more and tapped the screen.
He set the tablet aside, and looked at me. “I understand this is a delicate situation. Depending upon the outcome, there are various ways to proceed. All right?”
My head spun. Delicate? Had Orion told him about us, about the fake claim? I couldn’t think. “All right,” I replied.
“Normally, I have nurses who do this sort of thing. But for Orion, I’m seeing to this personally. Can you roll up your sleeve for me?”
With a quick glance at Orion, who looked on with a calm I was suddenly thankful for, I pulled up my sleeve.
