He leaned back and folded his arms across his chest. “You’re someone who has a substantial amount of money at our establishment. And we’d like to keep it that way.”
“Oh.” He’d saidsomeone. Not Omega, butsomeone.I’d gained a few steps with him, then?
I picked up my water and took a sip. “So,” I said. “Does that mean I should trust you?”
His eyelids half closed and he paused for a moment longer than was quite comfortable for business proceedings. His nostrils flared slightly. “The question is not should you, but can you,” he finally replied.
“All right then.” I’d play. “CanI trust you?”
One sleek eyebrow rose. “Most certainly.”
At his words, my insides gave a little tremble. That was when I realized fully this was about more than a mortgage refi.
It was ridiculous. Me and him. Really, it was. I was nobody. He was a Vandergale. But my instincts came with clarity enough to see he was attracted in some way to me. Perhaps not as much as I was attracted to him. Which was maybe why he’d found this new loan for me. He didn’t have the balls to ask me out, but he did have the know-how to find me a great loan.
“All right, then,” I said. “Let’s go for it.”
He looked at me questioningly, as if he, too, had been lost in his thoughts.
“The loan,” I said. “It sounds wonderful.”
“It is.”
The rest of the meal was shop talk, but the boys didn’t seem to mind, and I was happy to be getting a good deal and to have better insight into this Alpha who had gone out of his way for me when he didn’t have to.
We ended the meal with him promising to bring me the final documents to sign, which we would go over together.
To test these new waters, I asked, “Can’t you email them with explanations?”
He took a deep breath. “It’s best to go over it in person.”
I nodded. Hiding my smile. “How soon can this be done?”
“The funds are available and you qualify. I just need to have the bank’s loan officer draw up a few more papers for me.”
“I was approved that quickly?”
“Well, when I put it through myself, with my name attached, yes.”
Of course he’d seen to all that already, as if he knew I’d say yes. “All right. Whenever you say, then.”
“Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
He nodded as if this weren’t out of the ordinary at all. But I knew this was not standard procedure for loans.Mathias. What is going on in your mind?
“I can be at your office any time.”
“I can come to your house so you don’t have to make the trip with your children.”
Bold. Forward. Also considerate. I secretly liked it. “That’s fine, too.”
“All right then. How about two o’clock?”
“Hmm.” I wadded my napkin in my lap and held it tight. “I owe you a dinner. How about five? I’ll cook.”
Maybe I was too forward and bold myself. Maybe he wouldn’t like that in an Omega he was eyeballing. I waited with my breath held for his response.
