“Thank you.”

Mathias held the baby in his arms close to his chest, just as I was doing.

“This certainly is a gremlin,” he said.

“Ah, did you hear that?” I said to the baby in my arms. “Your father is an idiot.”

“All right, then,” he replied softly. “Real names. From our list. I like Kyro best.”

I smiled at him, a warmth shifting behind my eyes. “I like it. Welcome to your life, Kyro.”

“Now you,” Mathias said.

I looked down at the tiny guy in my arms. “I like Elijah.”

“Agreed.” Mathias’s eyes half-closed, glistening with emotion, as he spoke softly to the babe in my arms. “Welcome to the world, Elijah.”

Neither of us had glanced once at their bracelets. We didn’t care which one was Alpha, or which was Omega. These would be their names for now, and then they would become the people they wanted to be with help from their loving fathers. That was what we would do for them. And for Tybor and Luke as well.

I realized I had closed my eyes and was dozing. Later, I felt Mathias take the baby from me.

When I woke, it was to a most beautiful sight.

Mathias sat in the chair next to my bed, head down, eyes closed. He had one of our babies against his chest. He’d opened his shirt so the baby could be closer to his skin.

Through our bond I felt his resting state as if it were my own, his new-found tenderness, and his love.

In the past months, I had observed Mathias discovering a piece of himself he’d been missing his whole life. The home we’d both wished for when we were young, I on a chattel farm and he in his father’s cold clutches, had now become something we could give each other.

It was the greatest of gifts.
