Even though I told myself that over and over throughout the night while I’d held him to me as I slept, my cock had hardened. My skin had tingled. And that peachy fragrance nestled in the back of my throat, making my lips press tight to keep from simply leaning over him and kissing that plush, pink mouth.

I walked to the side of the bed. His hair, a shiny mess, fell into his face. I reached down and stroked it back.

His eyelids fluttered.

“Bast? Are you here?”

I took a deep breath. “Right here.”

Kee held out his splinted hand. I brushed my fingertips over the top of his palm but did not take it in my own.

“Are you hungry yet?” I asked.

He struggled to sit up, the sheet falling down one shoulder. “What time is it?”

“One.”

“Night or day.”

“Day.”

“Wow. I feel like it’s still night.”

“I came to tell you I have to go. I’ll be gone for tonight at least. Maybe longer. Do you think you can manage?”

He smacked his lips a little. “My mouth tastes all cottony.”

I handed him the water. He took it gratefully.

After he drained the whole glass, he said, “I guess I’ll be all right. Mainly, I feel like I need more sleep.”

“You should go easy on what you eat. There is fruit in the kitchen. You can make toast. Eggs. That sort of thing.”

He nodded, his big green eyes glancing up at me, puppy-sweet. I took a half-step back at how that look made me respond. My mind retorted.No. Just no!

“If things get bad, is there any way I can contact you?” he asked.

“There’s a burner phone right here. It’s brand new.” I’d risked everything to buy two of them. One I used to report in to Sam. The other I kept for Kee. “The only number in it is mine. If you text me, it will show up as anonymous.” I picked up the new phone, a red flip style, and handed it to him.

“What should I say if I have to text?”

I stared at him. He really wanted me to tell him everything to do. Nice kink. I didn’t tell him it was one of mine.

“Just text my name. Bast. And I mean it. It’s for emergencies only. I have no time to text on my job. The boss will notice and want to know who I’m talking to.”

He nodded, then winced. “Ow. My head.”

“There’s more aspirin on the nightstand as well. And your detox prescription, which you can have in about two hours. One pill only. Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir!” He raised his splinted hand and actually saluted me.

I frowned. “Don’t do that.”

“Do what?” He ducked his head and smiled, then winced again in pain.

Well fuck, this feisty street Omega was going to be the end of me.

“There’s a black robe in the closet you can use. Your sleep pants have been washed and dried.”
