“Hey.” I pulled them away from my side. “You’re not leaving me. Get into bed with me.”
He smiled down at me. It was weird, seeing him smile so much. When I’d first met him, I thought him incapable of such an expression.
“First, I’m going to get you juice and water. And your meds by the bed. I’ll be right back.”
I lay back on the soft pillows, alone in the room, studying the ceiling and the trim around it which I’d painted dark purple. I’d done a great job. The walls of the room itself were a paler blue which offset the dark furniture and the long black curtains and the black bedspread. Most of the new paint smell had faded due to the windows being left open overnight.
It all looked quite pleasant. I was happy with the results but I still needed to do the bathroom door, and the trim around it.
I heard footfalls as Bast entered the room carrying a tray. He’d brought my juice, and he’d made us turkey sandwiches.
“Are we eating in bed?” I asked.
“Yes.” He set the tray by my side.
“Oh, decadent!”
He touched my face, cupping my cheek. “I don’t think I’ve thanked you.”
“What?”
His dark eyes lowered. “For what you did. Everything.”
I frowned. “You saved me.”
“No. You disobeyed. You were naughty. But you bought me time. And you offered yourself without thought for my life. I—I could never have asked.”
“Huh. Well. Usually I’m thinking only for myself. What I want. I think this time I was pretty selfish, too. I’m irredeemable. I didn’t want to live in a world without you.”
“Irredeemable, eh?”
“Yeah. It’s a fault of mine.” I picked up a glass of orange juice and took a sip. “Mmm. Good. Anyway, this fault of mine, it’s going to require a lot of discipline, I think.”
“You think?” Now his eyes sparkled.
I nodded. “But first dinner. I’m starved. And then maybe a nap?”
“Sounds like a good plan.”
“You’ll stay with me?”
“I won’t leave you.”
Later, the lights out, Bast held me gently, making sure my injured shoulder stayed well cushioned. He said, “I almost lost you. I couldn’t bear the thought.”
I yawned. “Not going anywhere. I promise.”
“Good.”
“Plus, I have a cop looking out for me now. I couldn’t be safer.”
His arms tightened about me. I wanted more, but not tonight. Too fucking tired.
But after I healed, I had the plan to seduce this man every which way. From Daddy to boy to his in any way he’d have me.
This had never happened to me before. Wanting a single Alpha and no other. Wanting monogamy. The closest I’d ever come was Tarin. But Tarin, though respectful and nice and rich, didn’t entice me the way Bast did. Something about Bast had me from the moment he’d given me the soda in the cage. I had thought he was all in on kidnapping me, that he was a bad boy to the core, but still something about him woke me up inside and set the blood flowing in my veins. He’d created feelings in me that had been dormant for far too long.
We were giving this cohabitation thing a try. But I had a feeling we wouldn’t betryingfor long. We’d simply be there for each other. Always.
