“He must be busy with all those children.”

“Yeah...” I lay back again, imagining what it would be like to have children of my own. I thought about it more often now that my best friend had become a father too. Ryan had said he didn't want children, though. Not anymore. I wondered what he meant by that, what had happened.

“You know,” my mother started, “if you want to win Ryan over, you should prepare some food for him when he comes back. Everyone knows the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.”

“Really?” I shot my mom a curious look. “You think food’s going to make him like me?”

She chuckled. “He already likes you, dear. The food’s just to loosen him up a bit. Take him out on a date, feed him something delicious, tell him how you feel and he'll be yours in no time.”

I felt a silly grin take over my face as my mom’s words painted images in my head. A date! With Ryan! Nothing ever sounded so tempting. I’d dreamed of that since I’d first met him and he’d greeted me with that kind smile of his that always made me want to kiss him. But I couldn’t justdothat.

Or could I?

Maybe just a little to test the waters?
