“Is looking like you a bad thing?” Conner asked, distracting me before I could search his room for the source of the smell.

Focus, Shane.

“I don't know,” I said. “You tell me.”

Conner mulled this over for a moment, studying my face. “I don't think it's a bad thing,” he said eventually.

“Then it's not,” I decided with a smile. “Time for sleep now.”

“Goodnight, Dad.”

“Goodnight, Conner.” I placed a quick kiss on his forehead before leaving the room. That's when I realized thathewas the source of the smell. It was his scent I'd caught in the air, and the reason I hadn't recognized it was because it had changed.

I paused in the doorway, looking back at him.

“Is something wrong?” he asked.

“No, nothing's wrong.” I only had to accept that my little boy was growing up.

You look a lot like me, but you smell like Ron.

His scent was still weak. There one moment and gone the next. It wasn't exactly the same as his daddy's, but it was close. Sweet and reminiscent of sunflowers and open fields.

It was, without a doubt, an omega's scent.

And I had to find a way to break that to my boy without breaking his heart.

“Holy shit, you're actually pregnant?”

“Shhhh!” I shushed Nick. Maybe I was being paranoid, but these walls were super thin and I didn't want the neighbors to hear of this. Nobody could hear of this. Though I could certainly understand why my friend was freaking out.Iwas freaking out.Oh my God.

I sat on the couch, suddenly feeling faint.

“How far along are you?” Nick asked, flopping on the couch beside me.

“I don't know.” I rubbed my face with the heel of my hand. “Two or three months? How long has it been since your brother's wedding? You do the math.”

“I can't believe you got pregnant on my brother's wedding night.”

“Sorry?” I tried. “I didn't exactly plan to.”

“Why didn't you use a goddamn condom?”

“I uh...” I rubbed the back of my neck, remembering that night with Shane and how stopping to think for a second had seemed impossible. But how to explain that? “I don't know. We were stupid.”

“I'll say.” Nick stroked a hand back through his hair. “What are you going to do?”

“Honestly?” I looked at him. “No idea.” I sank farther back into the couch. “Can you imagine the media scandal if I decide I don't want to keep it?” Not that I wanted to have an abortion, but it had been on my mind. I liked having the option. I'd never had the option before.

“Can you imagine the media scandal if you do decide to keep it?” Nick countered. “This is going to blow up either way.”

“Like I don't know.” I sighed. There were certainly some drawbacks to living your life in the public eye.

“No matter what you decide, you need to tell Shane before the media gets wind of this.”
