“Hey, look at me.” Shane tilted my chin up. “All I meant is that we need to find a way to get your ex to leave you alone, okay? I'm not letting this get in the way ofus.”

At those words, my heart started beating faster again. “You mean it?”

“Of course I do.” He brushed our lips together again. “It's like I told you, nothing you can say can change my mind.” Taking my hand, he stood up, taking me with him. “Time for bed, don't you think?”

“Don't you have another child to tuck in in a few minutes?”

He chuckled. “Conner will take my negligence as an excuse to read all night. It's Sunday tomorrow. Let's not stop him.”

“If you say so...” I let him lead me up the stairs, his steps swift and confident. When we reached the door to his bedroom, it was I who hesitated. “Are you sure?”Are you sure you want to sleep with me in the bed you used to share with someone else?

“Absolutely.” He opened the door and I didn't argue any further. If he wanted me in his bed, I would be there, counting myself lucky.

Nothing you can say can change my mind,he'd said.

I only hoped he would remember that in the morning when I had to tell him about the baby.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my cell phone ringing. I groaned—as did Shane, lying next to me. He had one arm slung across my waist, and muttering something incoherent, he drew me closer to his body before I could even think about answering the call.

Blearily, I glanced at the window to note that the sun was pretty high up already. How long had we slept? Ignoring Shane's muttered protests, I reached for my phone.

“Whossit?” Shane asked.

That very moment, the ringing stopped. Of course. “My agent.” I groaned once more. “She keeps calling.”

“Need to call back?” Shane yawned, waking up, finally.

“Eventually, yeah.”But I need to have a conversation withyoufirst.“I'm gonna listen to my mailbox.” It looked like Michelle had left me a message or two, or three hundred.

Kade, call me when you get this.

Kade, call me immediately.

CALL ME.

“I get this distinct feeling that she wants me to call her.”

“Yeah?” Shane sat up and rubbed his eyes. “Wow, it's late. Usually Mary wakes me when I try to sleep in on a Sunday. I should probably go check up on her and Conner and you can call your agent.” Once he was up, it seemed there was no stopping him. I'd kind of wanted to spend a few more minutes in bed with him, but he threw on a shirt and some shorts and then he was out the door. And I was left behind with no way to hide from my responsibilities any longer.

I sighed to myself, rubbing my belly. Was it only my imagination or had I become a little bigger already? It had been nearly three months since I'd first slept with Shane...

Even if I wasn't showing yet, I was going to start soon, wasn't I?

That was going to be fun to explain to the media. Speaking of... I had a bad feeling about why my agent wanted to talk to me. Did it have anything to do with that blog site? Were there more pictures? Perhaps I really should call her back. I didn't have to tell her about the baby for now.

My mind made up, I hit the call button next to Michelle's name.

She answered almost immediately. “Kade! What have you beendoing?”

“Noth—”

“I've been trying to get you on the phone forever! What were you thinking, ignoring your agent's calls?”

“I didn’t—”
