I scrolled past them. Nothing I could do to makethesepeople change their minds. Glancing away from the comments, I noticed that I had a personal message too. Hopefully not more hate mail. Preparing myself for the worst, I clicked on the icon to display my messages.

My heart beat in my throat when I opened the latest message and saw that it was from Shane. I hadn't heard from him since we'd left Oceanport. I sure as hell hadn't expected him to send me messages on YouTube. But it seemed like he'd watched the new video...

Hey, Kade, just wanted to let you know I'm really enjoying your newest song. Mary is loving it too. She's making me play it on repeat in her room.

I'm sure you get tons of messages, so I don't know if you'll read this, but if you do, rest assured that the cat is doing fine. He still sleeps in the guest room. I think he's wondering where you went, really. No one's called for him, so I guess I'm going to keep him. That means I have to give him a name, doesn't it? Any suggestions? What do you call a cat who perches on top of the book shelf and stares down at you with judgment for ninety percent of the day?

Tempted to call him Fluffy just to spite him, honestly.

Hope you're doing well.

Shane

Ihitreply, my fingers hovering over the keyboard. The message had been sent an hour ago. Was Shane still at his computer? Probably not. His job and his children kept him busy. That meant I had time to think about my reply and agonize over every word. Which is exactly what I did, like a teenage omega with his first ever crush. It was a bit embarrassing, but luckily, no one was watching as I typed and deleted words.

Had it taken Shane this long to write his message too? Or had he just scribbled it down and hitsendwithout thinking much about it? No way for me to know, but I hoped it was the former and I wasn't the only idiot here.

Hi, Shane!I wrote eventually.

So good to hear fromyou! I'm not getting atonof messages, no need to worry! I'm glad the two of you like the new song! Tell Mary I said hi!

I'm glad the cat is doing well too!

Ihadno idea how to sign the message, and so I simply sent it off like that. It was only after I hitsendthat I realized I'd put an exclamation mark after every sentence. And I hadn't offered any suggestions for cat names either. It was like my brain stopped functioning while I was writing.

The worst thing was that I'd given him nothing to reply to. No questions or anything.

But I wanted another message from him. Staring at my laptop, I chewed my lower lip.

You shouldn't be crushing on him.

I was, though. There was no denying that. The question was, what was I going to do about it? Close the lid of the laptop and let it die, or try to coax more messages out of him? The former was certainly the more sensible choice. So, of course, I went with the latter.

This second message I didn't think as much about. I just made myself write it and fire it off.

Sorry, I forgot you asked about names for the cat. How about Lord Mittens? He seems kind of lord-ly, doesn't he? Although the way he watches people reminds me more of a movie villain. Like, I don't know, the evil eye of Sauron.

Don't call your cat Sauron, though.

Anyhow, I hope all is well in Oceanport. Are Dean and Griff back from their honeymoon yet? How are you doing? I hope better, now that the wedding is over. Let me know.

Again, I didn't sign the message. And then I spent a few minutes refreshing YouTube, hoping for a new message to pop up. Oh yes, I was definitely crushing on an alpha who lived thousands of miles away.

Way to go, Kade.

“Daddy, I want to watch the new video!” Before I could stop her, Mary climbed on my desk chair and reached for my mouse and keyboard.

I picked her up before she could do damage to herself or my equipment. “Not now, princess. Your brother will be home from school any minute and then we’ll go over to Uncle Dean’s place.” Dean wasn’t technically her uncle, but she’d taken to calling him that, and it was fine with me. “Aunt Sharon will be there too. It’ll be fun.”

“Aunt Sharon is biiiig,” Mary said, pulling her hands apart to indicate a wide circle.

“That’s because there’s two babies in her belly,” I informed her.

“Two?” She tilted her head at me, a curious expression on her face.
