“Are you pregnant?”

“Oh, c’mon.” I laughed her off. “Don’t be like those reporters.”

“I’m not at all like those reporters. You know what’s different?”

“Okay, I bite. What’s different?”

“Whether you’re pregnant or not actually concerns me if we’re to work together. Whatever is going on with you, I need to know so I can prepare.”

“I’m telling you, there’s nothing going on with me.” I hadn’t had sex in a while. Too busy with work. There was that one time with Shane, but… that was just that once. That didn’t mean I was pregnant, did it? Well, that and the vomiting.

Fuck.

“I believe you,” Michelle said. “But why don’t you take a test? Only to be sure. And then you call me back when you know.”

“Okay.” I gave in, voice soft, because she might have a point. Oh God.She might have a point.

Once that thought took root in my brain, there was no taking it back. As I ended the call and got dressed, it was all I could think about.

What if Iwaspregnant?

Surely I couldn’t be.

But what if I was?

I put my pants on and closed my eyes. I’d been pregnant once before. What had that felt like? I couldn’t even recall now. I spent so much time trying to forget those days that the details had become all fuzzy.

If Iwaspregnant, it had to be Shane’s. Wouldn’tthatbe fucking fantastic? Way to start a relationship.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. No need to panic yet. Nothing was confirmed. And even if I was pregnant, I had options now that hadn’t been open to me last time.

Now I only had to go out, get a test, and take it from there.

Ihadmy hand on my wallet, ready to go out, when I realized I had a problem. This was LA. There was no way I could go out and buy a pregnancy test. It would be all over the gossip mags tomorrow.

Running a hand through my hair, I looked down the hallway toward Nick’s room. A sigh escaped me. Asking Nick to go buy a pregnancy test was going tosuck. If this test was negative, I’d never live it down. And if it wasn’t… well, he’d be the first to know I was pregnant with his cousin’s kid.

What a clusterfuck.

I took a deep breath.

I wasn’t going to get out of this, was I? Sure, I could order a test stick online, but the wait wouldkill me.

Nope, I had to do this now. Nothing for it.

Bracing myself, I knocked on Nick’s door.

No response.

I glanced at the time on my phone. A few minutes after ten. I could totally wake him up without feeling guilty. This was an emergency, after all. Also, I had a feeling he wouldreallywant to hear this.

I knocked again.

“Go away!” And then athud. Sounded like a pillow hit the door.

“Don’t be that way.” I opened the door and evaded another pillow that was about to hit me in the face. No, my roommate was definitely not a morning person. At least he was out of pillows to throw and now hiding his head under the covers. I went up to the bed and poked him where I assumed his ribs were. One of his legs shot out from under the sheets as he tried to kick me. I just barely dodged out of the way.
