“If you ask really nicely,” I added. “And it's gonna cost you.”

He raised his eyebrows at me in mock surprise. “How much is it gonna cost me?”

“Oh, not too much. I was thinking one kiss per song.”

“Really? That's cheap.”

“Are you calling me cheap?” I spotted his car in the parking lot and walked toward it.

“I would never,” he said, following with my suitcase. “But I do think your songs are worth more than that. I'd happily pay two kisses per songs at least.”

“You're flattering me.”

“No, not at all.” We reached the car and he set the suitcase down before stepping up to me. “Here, let me make a pre-payment.”

“A pre-pay—” His lips were on mine before I could get the question out. Good, I wasn't the only one who couldn't wait to proceed to this part of the evening. I sighed into the kiss, feeling myself relax even further. “Payment accepted,” I murmured. That didn’t stop him. It took a long time before he broke away—not that I minded—and even when he did, he stayed close, his hands a warm weight on my hips. I’d worried seeing him again after all this time might be a bit awkward at first, but we came together naturally.

“I’ll sing for you tonight,” I said.

He chuckled, running the tip of his thumb over my bottom lip. “Nope,” he said. “Tonight, I’llmake yousing for me.”

A pleasant shiver ran through me at those words. “Of that, I have no doubt.”

Stuck in the moment, I darted my tongue out to run it over his thumb, not caring who saw us.

Not caring about anything but him and me at all.

On the carride to Oceanport, Shane told me the kids were at Dean’s for the night. I liked that arrangement because it gave us some time to be alone together, but still, we couldn’t jump into bed immediately. No, first we had to take Conner’s dog out for a walk.

Max pulled on the leash as we headed outside. The Golden Retriever was barely two years old, as Shane informed me, and still very energetic. I didn’t mind; I’d always liked dogs, even if I’d never had one.

“Let’s take him to the park,” Shane said. “He loves it there.”

I nodded. “Sounds good.” A trip to the park might not be so bad. Fall hadn’t fully set in yet, but the leaves were already changing color. The park would be beautiful this time of year.

“All right then.” Shane grabbed my hand and started walking. My breath stuck in my throat as I followed. I hadn’t expected him to take my hand like that. His grasp was firm though, as if he had no doubt about what he was doing. As if it was natural. I liked that thought. And I liked the touch. Shane’s hand was warm, even though the outside air was cooling down as the sun started to set.

Involuntarily, I glanced around, wondering if anyone was watching. This was a small town, after all. Someone would see, and before the morning, everyone would know there was something going on between Shane andthat loose omega from LA.

Shane didn’t seem to care about that, though. He didn’t appear uncomfortable at all. His gait was easy, his body language open and relaxed, his ginger hair in a carefully arranged state of disarray that made me want to tangle my fingers in it.

Later.

The anticipation sent tingles down my arm where my hand connected with Shane’s.

“Notice anything interesting?” Shane asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“What?”

“You were scanning me.”

“Scanning?” What an odd way to put it.

He flashed me a smile. “That’s what it looks like when you put your eyes on me. It’sintense.”

Was it? No one had told me that before. “I’m sorry.”
