“All done?” Shane asked, cocking an eyebrow at me.

“Yes,” I agreed, trying not to appear too flustered. “Are the kids all right?”

“Yes, more than fine, actually. Can you believe Conner made Mary breakfast so she wouldn't disturb us? Now they're both watching cartoons.”

“Really? He deserves to get the brother of the year award for that.”

“Oh, absolutely. He's also started talking about what he wants to do for his birthday when he's been avoiding the topic all week.” Shane sat on the bed with me. “Whatever you said to him yesterday, I think I have to thank you.”

“Thank him,” I deflected. “I said some things to make him think, but he did all the thinking by himself.” That couldn't be underestimated. “He's a smart kid.” And I felt a little bit proud of him, even though I'd had no hand in raising him. Still, I felt a certain kinship with the young omega, simply due to what we'd both been through.

“That he is. He must get it from Ron,” Shane added. “Certainly not from me.” A little laugh escaped him, and I couldn't help but wonder whatourchild was going to be like. Would their laughter sound like Shane's? I liked that idea. I hoped our child would have his vibrant ginger hair. Or at least his eyes. Those were beautiful too. Suddenly, I couldn'twaitfor May.

“What are you thinking about?” Shane asked.

“Huh?”

“You had this distant look in your eyes.” He smiled. “I like your eyes better when they're piercing me.” His grin grew wider as I studied him. “Like what you're doing now. That's hot.”

I grinned back at him. “You like that, huh?”

Instead of responding in words, he gave me a kiss. I gave in to it only for a moment. Part of me wanted to make out with him for as long as the kids would let us, but I knew that we had to talk. This couldn't wait any longer. Especially when my agent was already thinking about how best to market my pregnancy.

He gave me a quizzical look.

“Remember how you said there was nothing I could say to make you change your mind?”

“Yeah?” He drew back a little, curiosity etched into his features.

“I'd like to test that theory a little further.” I chewed my lower lip looking at Shane.

“Go ahead then.” If he worried at all about what I might say, he didn't show it, reaching out to stroke some hair back from my face.

“I'm pregnant,” I blurted out.

For a second or two, Shane didn't react at all, seemingly frozen. Then his eyes went wide. “What?”

Didn't expectthat, did you? But this was not the time to feel victorious because I'd managed to surprise Shane. No, my heart was beating so hard I feared it was going to break out of my chest any moment.

“I'm pregnant,” I repeated. “Almost three months along, I'm guessing.”

“Is it... I mean, did you...” Shane stumbled over his words. It was almost comical to see him this way. Almost.

“It's yours, if that's what you're wondering.”

He exhaled, a look of pure relief crossing his features. Really? That was all he worried about?

“I haven't slept with anyone else since I met you,” I added in a low voice, because I felt he needed the reassurance for some reason. Indeed, he seemed to breathe easier hearing those words.

“Phew. You scared me for a moment there. When you said I was going to change my mind and then you said you were pregnant...” He ran a hand through his hair. “Had me nearly convinced it had to be someone else's kid, because why else would that be a problem?”

“So, to be clear, you understood that I'm pregnant and that's not a problem for you?”

“Oh, it's definitely a surprise.” He drew in a breath as if only now starting to contemplate what he'd been told. “To be honest, I thought I wasdonewith babies, but...” His eyes drifted down my body, his gaze full of heat. “On the other hand, I can'twaitto see you all pregnant.”

I snorted. “You alphas are all the same.”

“Pah, you're saying that like you're not enjoying my sexual prowess.” Along with the words, he put on a look of mock offense that made me laugh. Why had I been so scared to tell him about this? It seemed silly now. We were in this together, weren't we? It took two people to make a baby, after all.
