I pulled my boarding pass out of my pocket and showed it to him.
He ripped it out of my hand, his eyebrows climbing up his forehead. “Holy shit. You actually went to Indiana? Did anything I told you about Goldstone make you want to visit?”
The absolute disbelief in his voice made me laugh. Now that everything was taken care of and I was back home again, I could finally relax. “Not exactly,” I said. “I went to talk to some people. You're being excommunicated, by the way. Sorry about that.”
“What?” His eyes went wide.
“They're kicking you out of the church. Turns out having a baby with an alpha other than the one you married is kind of a huge deal to them. Who would have thought?”
“They're really... letting me go?” His voice was barely louder than a whisper. “You're not making this up?”
“I'm not. It's the truth. I left them a copy of the ultrasound picture, by the way. Considering the circumstances, I figured you wouldn't mind.”
He threw his arms around me so quickly the motion almost knocked me off the couch. “You idiot!” He huffed. “I thought you were leaving me and you... you went and...” He seemed lost for words to describe what I'd done for him. I kissed his hair and inhaled his scent. It was so good to have him in my arms—where he belonged.
“Don't thank me yet. There's more.”
“Seriously? You weren't gonethatlong, what else did you do?”
I grinned at him. “I can get a lot done when I set my mind to it.”
“No shit.” Kade brushed our lips together, but only for a moment. “Now tell me what you did.”
“You should be getting a call from your lawyer soon.”
“My lawyer?” His forehead wrinkled adorably in his confusion.
“Yes. Your soon to be completelyex-husband filed for divorce.”
For almost a full minute, Kade only looked at me, disbelief, surprise, and cautious joy mingling on his features. “You're not... You really...”
“I really.”
Apparently, that was all the confirmation Kade needed. “Thank you,” he said, voice brimming with gratitude as he rested our foreheads together. “You have no idea how much that means to me.”
“Think you could show me?”
He gave me a kiss, a long one that pushed me back into the leather of the couch. Yes, that felt very appreciative. He didn’t really need to thank me, but I fully enjoyed his lips on mine anyway.
“How did you do it?” he asked when he came up for air.
“Do what?” I gave back, my brain still a bit fogged over from the kiss.
“Get him to file. I could have sworn he was never going to do it.”
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
“But I want to know.” His eyes bore into mine as if they could find the answer there. “He didn’t make you do anything weird, right?”
“No!” I said quickly. “Nothing like that.”
Kade licked his lips, brow furrowing. “Was there money involved?”
Something in my face must have given me away, because Kade smiled triumphantly. Sheesh, why had I ever thought I could hide anything from him? He saw right through me.
“How much?” Kade asked. “I’ll pay you back. You shouldn’t have to pay for my freedom.”
“It wasn’tthatmuch, and I paid it gladly.” I could never get myself to do anything with the money anyway. “You don’t have to pay me back. If I get to keep you, that’s enough for me,” I said honestly. “You said earlier you thought I was gonna leave you. I’m sorry I made you think that. I’m not going anywhere.” I brought my hand up to stroke some hair back from his face. “I didn’t think I was ever going to love anyone else after Ron, but I do. I love you, Kade.”
