The rest of the show passed by quickly with some more questions about my album and what I had planned for the future. I took the chance to announce that I was going to be on hiatus for a while after the baby was born, but that I fully intended to return to the stage in the foreseeable future. The audience seemed content with that, and then I was finally free.

Shane found me in the dressing room when the show was over. And he was carrying flowers. How cliché! I grinned. “I'm so proud of you,” he said after giving me a quick kiss.

“I'm only glad that's over. Are those for me?” I looked at the colorful bouquet.

“Indeed.” He handed them to me. “Special delivery for my favorite celebrity.”

“How kind of you!” I took a sniff. The flowers smelled sweet, but still, I vastly preferred just burying my nose in Shane's hair instead.

“Anything for you.” He paused. “You didn't tell me about your hiatus.”

“Well, we'll need the time if we're building a new house.”

“We're doing what?”

My grin widened. “I'm going to need a recording studio if I'm moving to Oceanport.” And thank God I had enough money coming in to realize that dream.

“You're moving to Oceanport?”

“Yeah.” I leaned in to give him a kiss. We hadn't discussed this at length yet, but it was definitely time to finalize our plans. “Remember when you asked me what made me leave Harvey in the end?”

He nodded.

I licked my lips. It had been a while since I’d thought about all of this, but… “I got pregnant at eighteen. I miscarried, and he wanted to try again. And when we did I kind of… realized that I didn’twantto have a baby with him, because I would be stuck with him in Goldstone forever. It meant the end of all my dreams… You don’t make me feel that way. Not even a little. I want to be with you. I want this baby.”

“I’m glad.” Shane touched his lips to my forehead. “Thank you for telling me.”

I smiled at him. “Besides, Oceanport is a good place to raise a child.” And that took priority over everything else. “But to make that happen I'm going to need studio space. I figured we could upgrade to something with a bit more room for all the kids.”

“I like that.” Shane took my hands in his and pressed another kiss on my lips. The baby kicked again as I leaned into him.

“We like it too,” I said with a small smile before I rested my head on his shoulder. The day had been long and exhausting. “Take me home?”

“You bet I will.”

Ihad the best boyfriend. How I knew? He spent almost a whole day in a car with me to get me to New York City for some final interviews before this baby was due next month. I told him it wasn'tthatimportant that I do this, but he insisted, and I couldn't fly so... car it was.

He even let me pick the music. I chose some upbeat tunes to keep us both awake. At least the kids were back in Oceanport with their grandmother, so we didn't have to worry about keeping them entertained as well.

We spent the night in a hotel where I completely abused the room service to take care of all my exceedingly weird food cravings. I apologized to Shane for the bill we were racking up, but he told me he was just glad that—for once—it wasn't him making all the emergency grocery runs.

At this point, I think we were both ready for this baby to be born and this pregnancy to be over.

But when my water finally broke, I was the least ready I could possibly be.

It happened in the middle of my first interview the day after we got into New York City. Almost a full month ahead of my due date. I'd never guessed howrightI was when I said this baby couldn't wait to be born. She literally couldn't.

“If everything all right?” the interviewer asked when she noted the odd expression on my face.

“My water just broke.”

“Your what?” the blond haired lady interviewing me for some teenage magazine looked equal parts shocked and intrigued—probably already wondering if landing this story was going to get her a raise. I didn't care about her raise, though. I cared that I was in the middle of New York City and my water just broke.

Where was Shane? Out sight-seeing somewhere. Neither of us expected this to happen today.
