“Whatever I want to do, huh?” My alpha looked oddly pensive at that.
“Yeah, whatever you want to do,” I repeated. “I’ll support you.”
“That’s good to know.”
But he was still looking a little lost in thought so I gave him a kiss to pull him back into the present with me. I’d always known he was a bit of a dreamer, but I’d never minded. “Let’s look around, okay?” I suggested. “I’m still hoping for a Jacuzzi.”
Nathan shook his head at me, but agreed to go examine our new living space.
The house was mostly devoid of furniture aside from some stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, a salmon colored couch in the living room and a king-size bed in the master bedroom.
“Well,” I said, studying the thing, “at least we won’t be sleeping on the floor tonight.”
“You want to stay here right away?” Nathan asked.
I shrugged. “To be honest, I don’t really care where we sleep as long as I get to be with you. But it might be fun, don’t you think? We can talk about what sort of furniture we want.” I was kind of glad there wasn’t much here yet. We hadn’t been able to pick the house, but at least we were allowed some say over the interior design.
“I guess it could be fun.” Nathan sat on the mattress on the bed. Idly, I wondered how old it was. At least it didn’tlookdingy, though. “This place really isn’t so bad.”
“No Jacuzzi, though.”
“We can install one if you really want one.”
“Nah.” I flopped on the mattress next to him. “I don’t really need a Jacuzzi.” And he was right; the place really wasn’t so bad. The kitchen was large enough to cook comfortably for a couple of people and we would be able to entertain most of mine or Nathan’s family in the living room. There were enough guest rooms so I could have both of my siblings stay over if I wanted to--or if they wanted to, it wasn’t like I could say no to them when they wanted to spend time with me. I didn’t really care much about gardening, but if Nathan or I ever felt that urge, there was space for that in the backyard. We could also put up a fence and let his dog roam free.
Thinking of the dog...
“Are you gonna go and get Michel?”
“Yeah, I will. I texted Aaron when we touched down at the airport actually.”
I grinned. “You missed that dog more than anyone, didn’t you?” He’d been the same way when we were at college too. Michel got the most heartfelt goodbyes and the most jubilant greetings. He even made his family get the dog on Skype.
“I didn’t miss himthatmuch,” Nathan tried to downplay everything.
“Don’t even bother. I can see right through you.”
“Well, if you already know I guess I can get up and get my dog now.”
“Go ahead. I’ll check in with my family and we’ll meet back here.”
“All right. See you later, angel.” Before standing from the bed, Nathan leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. At first I thought it was going to be a quick peck, but my alpha obviously had something else in mind, his tongue running over my lower lip until I opened my mouth to him, his scent washing over me as he deepened the kiss.
God, I’d missed the way he kissed me. Like I was the most precious thing in the world.
I’d never found that with anyone in Boston.
When Nathan finally stood and left the room, I stared after him for a moment, missing him already--which I knew was absolutely ridiculous.
But I also knew that I would never be able to leave him again. Which meant that I needed to make this work. Our relationship, living in this house, being a family...
I cringed at that last thought.
When Nathan and I had gone through all the rooms before, we’d come upon three empty rooms that we labeled as guest rooms. Actually, Nathan had labeled them that way, even though I knew we both knew at least one of them was meant to be a nursery. The room next to the master bedroom.
My feet led me there now.
The walls were painted in baby blue and I could just picture a crib standing in front of the window overlooking the backyard.
