After a minute, I crawled up on the bed and burrowed into Talon's side. "That was amazing."

"It was." He kissed my forehead and lazily ran his fingers through my hair. Then he glanced at my belly. "You're growing so fast."

"I'm not the one growing. That's the baby." I grabbed Talon's hand and rested it on my belly. "If you wait a little bit you can feel him move."

It took a couple of minutes, but then Talon drew his hand back as if in shock. "That's...?"

"Yeah, that's the baby." I smiled at him. "Your son. Or daughter."

"Ourson or daughter," Talon corrected before giving me another kiss. One of those kisses that seemed to go on forever. One of those kisses I never wanted to end. Eventually, though, our lips parted and I looked at Talon, feeling breathless all over again.

"Do you still want me to keep the panties on?"

Talon laughed. "Maybe you should." He reached under my skirt again to trace the outline of my dick through the lace. His touch wasalmostenough to get me ready for round two. Shamelessly, I rubbed myself against him, feeling sticky and dirty and perfect.

"Whatever you want," I said, meaning every word.

For some reason, Talon's expression turned serious. "Actually, I have a favor to ask of you tonight."

"Oh, is that why you needed me in a good mood?" I teased, though I could tell that this matter was important to Talon, whatever it was.

Talon sat up. “I need to make some preparations to kill my sire.“

Chapter Twenty-Two

"Your sire?" I asked, trying not to get whiplash from the way Talon had changed the topic.

"I need to kill him to break free. It's the only way."

"I realize that, but..." I was still struggling to catch up with what Talon was trying to tell me. "What kind of favor do you need?"

"I need my memories back." Talon rose from the bed and walked over to low table that stood beside the hotel room's only window. I noticed only that he'd placed two wine bottles on it. No, not a wine bottle. That was probably blood. He always made sure to feed me when we met. Now he uncapped a bottle and took a swig out of it himself. It was such an unusual sight, Talon drinking straight from the bottle like a common savage. "The other bottle is for you," he said. "You can have it later, when we're done."

"Okay." I wasn't feeling particularly thirsty anyway. And even if I had been, that wasn't something I could focus on now. "Are you sure you want your memories back?"

"I need to reconnect with my human side in order to break free from my sire's spell. I supposerememberingmy human side would go a long way toward that." It sounded like he didn'tlikethe idea, but he was determined to go through with this anyway.

"Are you going to be okay?"

"I'll have to be." Talon returned to the bed. "It doesn't matter. The reason I never wanted to remember was because I assumed I wouldn't be able to go on doing my job if I did... But my job has changed, hasn't it?" He stroked my cheek with his thumb. "My job is to protect you and the little one at any cost."

I wanted to argue, but the look in his eyes took the wind out of my sails. There wasn't any use in arguing with him over this. If he felt that he needed to do this, all I could do was help him whatever way I could. "What do you need me to do?"

"Bite me, and then, when we're connected, you dig into my memories."

"How do I do that?"

"You'll figure it out. You've done it twice before."

"I have?"

"Yes, but you don't remember it," Talon reminded me that I too had some lost memories. Maybe I should get them back too? Then Talon wouldn't have to suffer alone... Before I could think about that, though, we needed to take care of Talon's memories—and I couldn't say that I wasn't curious what I would find.

Who had Talon been before he became Talon?

Did it even matter?

I wasn't sure that it did, but I wanted to find out anyway.
