"What?" he asked. "Wasn't it obvious by now?"

"I guess maybe." I kissed the pad of his thumb. "I love you too." And he did have a point, didn't he? Our love wasn't new. The only thing new was that we had now acted on it. Maybe we were going to be fine after all?

I so badly wanted to let myself believe that.

Exhaling, I rested my forehead on David's shoulder. "We're really going to be okay?"

"Promise."

"Pinky swear?"

David laughed. "I'll seal this promise whatever way you want."

"With a kiss?" I suggested.

He took me up on my suggestion without even a moment's hesitation.

Our guests were waitingfor us when we came back down to rejoin the baby shower. Feeling better now, I greeted everyone with a smile. "Sorry to keep you waiting," I apologized.

"We get it. I felt sick my whole last pregnancy too," Uncle Rhys said, giving me a sympathetic look as well as a good excuse to use.

My dad appeared by my side. "Are you feeling okay?"

"I'm fine," I said quickly before Dad could start fussing over me like I was a three-year-old, even if I was grateful for my family to be here. Now that I wasn't panicking anymore, it was easier to feel appreciative. Everyone had come here for me. I wasn't alone in this. I never really had been.

"You want to finish your cake?" Aiden approached me with a plate in his hand.

"Yeah, sure. Thanks." I sat back down at the table I'd deserted.

David stuck to my side the whole time as if he had to make sure that no one else could upset me again. I decided to humor him and not say anything. If he needed to feel like a protective alpha for a little while, so be it.

I only tensed as Mrs. Rosewood stepped up to the table again. My eyes narrowed at her before I could stop myself. Was she here to dole out more advice? If so, I didn't need it.

But it seemed that wasn't what she had in mind. "I'm terribly sorry if I've upset you, my boy," she said. "I only thought it was a shame that a young omega such as yourself should be all by himself."

"I'm not." My eyes flitted to David, who grabbed my hand under the table.

Mrs. Rosewood's face lit up in delight. "I'm glad to hear that, and David is such a good choice too. I'm sure you will be so happy together."

"Yeah, I'm sure of that too," I agreed, trying hard not to blush as the old lady looked at me as if she knew exactly what David and I did in his bedroom at night.

"Wait," my cousin Mary said from across the table. "You guys are together now?"

"About damn time, I'd say," her girlfriend chimed in.

I groaned as everyone started chattering among themselves and I saw some expressions and nods that could only be interpreted as 'I always knew those two were going to end up together.'

It wouldn't have surprised me if there had been some bets going as well.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rosewood pulled something out of her pocket. A slip of paper that she slid across the table to me. "I'd like to offer you a coupon to some of my special Christmas creations I made this year," she said. "To make up for the stress I've caused."

Special Christmas creations? I eyed the coupon suspiciously.

"They're on display at the tattoo parlor," she said. "Tree ornaments and such. I'm sure you'll find something you like."

"Thank you," I made myself sure, even though I was nowhere near as sure of this as she was. Mrs. Rosewood was known for her rather unique creations. They probably weren't going to be the kind of things I wanted to put on my tree, but checking them out might be fun, anyway.
