I stared at Damian, wanting to respond, but finding myself unable to because my brain had bluescreened. The love of my life.Had he really just said that? It was one thing for him to be interested in me, but...
"Relax," Damian said, squeezing my shoulder. "I'm not asking you to feel the same way, but something tells me that I've spent far too much time hiding my feelings, so I'm going to stop doing that. I love you. Even if that's the only thing I remember, I know it's true."
"It's... I..." Shit, how did words work? My first instinct was to say that I'm sorry, but that was not an appropriate response, was it? "It's not... I didn't mean to cast a spell on you."
Damian laughed. "I doubt you did. I'm sure there's plenty other reasons why I feel the way I do. We were best friends, right?"
"Weare," I corrected.
Damian fell silent for a moment, his grip on my shoulder loosening. "You don't know what I've become."
"I know you," I insisted.
"Tell me."
"About you?"
"About us."
"All right," I agreed, wondering where to start. "We're... well, people call us nerds, I guess."
"That's what Aldrich calls you," Damian supplied. "The nerdling."
I was tempted to roll my eyes. "It just means that I'm smart, and that I have interesting hobbies. We both do." A smile stole on my face. "We met each other because you had the lastPokémonsticker I needed to complete my album."
"Pokémon?"
"No way. Don't tell me you don't rememberPokémon."
Damian shook his head and I shot him a disbelieving look.
"You own every game in that series."
"Do I?" he asked.
"Your favorite is Arcanine. It's a big dog who can attack with fire."
"Okay, that does sound cool."
"It totally is," I agreed. "Wow, I bet you can't rememberStar Warseither."
"Doesn't ring a bell."
I grinned at him. "You're so lucky."
"How does that make me lucky?"
"You have no idea how many people wish they could watch Star Wars again for the first time. We'll have to do that tonight. We can stream the movies."
"Whatever you want."
"Trust me, you'll love it," I promised Damian, because of course he would. Those had been our favorite movies. Both our favorite movies. With a pang, I remembered the Millennium Falcon I'd destroyed. God, how could I have been so stupid?
"Tell me more about nerd things," Damian said.
"Do you think that'll bring your memories back?"
"No, but it makes your eyes light up."
