“Don’t worry about it,” Will assured him. He hung up and made a quick call down to the gate, then came over to help me up to my feet. “Come on. You shouldn’t have done that last scene.”

“Yeah.” He was right about that too, but I wanted to prove I could do this, that I could bounce back from that fall even with the baby.Neededto prove it. “Thanks.”

“Hey, what’s an assistant for?” Will asked with a soft smile. “Let’s get you down to your parking spot and get you home.”

Miles must have broken a few speed limits getting to the studio. While we didn’t break any speed records ourselves getting out to the parking lot, I’d expected to be sitting out there for at least twenty minutes while Miles navigated late evening traffic, but I hardly had enough time to get comfortable on the pavement before he pulled in, the lights of his SUV blinding me. I put a hand up to shade my eyes and pushed myself to my feet. “Thanks, Will,” I said and squeezed his shoulder, then limped over to meet Miles.

“What did you do to yourself?” he demanded, rushing around the front of the car with just a quick hello for Will to open the door for me.

“I’m fine, just got stiff sitting there.” A massage would feel good right now—that last scene hadn’t been a long one, but it had been super physical for me. Maybe I’d see if I could book one for this weekend. The way I felt now, we weren’t going baby shopping tomorrow. “Miles, I’m okay. Don’t get overprotective.”

“You fell through a piece of staging the other day,” he reminded me. “Of course I’m going to worry.”

“Well, don’t,” I snapped. “The baby is fine. I’m just tired. We crammed in an extra scene today and I seriously need a shower and then bed. Maybe not in that order.” I climbed up into the SUV and waved to Will that he could go. Miles stood in the open door and watched me carefully, but I had to credit him with enough restraint to not help me. He did pay attention, which I truly appreciated at the moment. I needed to be nicer to him.

He climbed in on the driver’s side. “Don’t forget your seatbelt,” he said, his tone careful.

I looked down, surprised, then quickly buckled it. “Sorry. I didn’t realize how tired I was until I stopped moving.”

“A knock on the head will do that to you,” he said as he backed out of the parking slot. “Maybe you should have taken today off too.”

“Margaret stopped by, she says we’re as close to being on time as we can be. I don’t want to put us any further behind. I have tomorrow off. If you don’t mind putting off our shopping trip, I swear I’ll be good and spend the entire day being a lazy slob.”

“Promise me that?”

“I promise.” I could, at least, give him that.

I reclined the seatback and made myself comfortable. The streetlights outlined the shape of his face and I found myself dreamily watching the lights as they gleamed off his cheekbones, his nose, the curve of his lips. He really was a good-looking alpha. Easy going, too. I was an idiot.

My eyes closed and I forced them open again so I could watch him, but the subtle thrum of the engine and the vibration as we rode through the night was hard to resist. My eyes drifted shut again, and this time, they stayed closed.

“Tam, wake up.”Someone was shaking me. I batted at them, cranky because I wasn’t ready to get up yet.

The voice came again. “You really are tired, aren’t you?”

Miles. What was Miles doing at my place at…? Oh, we were home. I pried my eyes open and stared blearily up at him. “I’m awake.” I raised the seat back to its original setting and swung my legs out the door of the SUV. “Sorry I fell asleep on you.”

“You needed it.” He stepped out of the way and let me get out on my own.

For my own part, I did my best not to worry him any more than I already had. He might work with Hollywood, but like most people, he didn’t quite get Hollywood. I was fine.

The yawn caught me by surprise, overwhelming me to the point that I didn’t even notice I’d started to sway until Miles caught me. “Whoa!” I rubbed my hands over my face and patted the first part of him I could reach, which happened to be his arm, all muscled and tight as he half-supported my weight. “Wasn’t expecting that.”

“Let’s get you up to bed,” he suggested with a smile.

“Okay,” I agreed.

He kept an arm around my shoulder and he was so nice and warm and smelled so good, I didn’t argue with him about it. In the elevator, I let myself lean against him, half asleep and enjoying the unusual sensation of not having to worry about pushing the elevator buttons and making sure I got off on the right floor. Miles would look after it.

He guided me down the hall to the condo. I was too sleepy to put the code in myself, so I mumbled the new one into the base of his neck and let him help me inside.

The next thing I remembered was the coolness of the sheets under my naked back and Miles pulling the blanket up over me. “You want me to do anything before I go? Check on the cat?”

“Need to set my alarm,” I mumbled.

“I’ll take care of it,” he said quietly. “You go to sleep.”
