“It’s nice to meet you,” he says, breaking the silence.

I clear my throat.

“Yeah, same. Do you live around here?”

“No,” he shakes his head. “I travel too much to say I live anywhere. How about you?” He arches an eyebrow. The movement highlights the cut of his cheekbones and jawline.

“Home is a little further north, but I’m starting to travel a lot for work too.”

“What do you do?”

Oh shit. I hadn’t thought of how I’d answer the career question.

“I’m a bartender on a big adventure,” I say.

He lets that soak in for a moment.

“I like big adventures,” he says, knocking his drink back.

“Any chance you want to have one with me tonight?” I lift my eyes over my glass.

“Absolutely.”

He grins, and it’s a blur from there. We somehow make it to the elevators before our lips press together, and I’m pulling at his suit jacket.

“Your room or mine?” he asks.

I feel safer knowing Dennis will be next door.

“Mine,” I say and push the button for the sixteenth floor. I have to stand on my tiptoes to reach him, but he slides his hands under my ass, lifting me to him. Our tongues touch and our mouths slide together. I straddle his waist, and he carries me out into the hall.

“1620,” I say as I hang on, rocking into him with each step. He presses me up against the door, bracing one hand on the frame. I don’t know if we’re going to make it to the bed.

The door next to us opens, and I pull back, looking in that direction.

“Put her down, now,” Dennis says, his eyes dark. The man next to him looks pale and possibly anemic, which makes sense considering what they were up to.

Rune doesn’t open his eyes. He just laughs, leaning his forehead against mine.

“Dennis, how nice of you to show up.”

VAMPIRE AFFAIRS

Rune tips his head back but doesn’t let go. All I can do is stare at Dennis with my ass pressed against the door.

Awkward.

Dennis is still glowering, and the dude next to him is tucking his dress shirt into his pants.

“I uh…I’ll get out of here. I don’t fuck around in vampire affairs,” he says, nodding to Dennis, who grunts his dismissal. The guy is still smiling when he passes by me. “Let me know when you’re back in Philly.”

Once he’s gone, I look between Rune and Dennis.

“Vampire affairs?”

Rune smiles, and I catch the glint of sharp fangs. My heart beats frantically. The thought of him grazing those sharp points along my neck... I shake my head. What the hell? I’m way too tired and horny if I’m having thoughts like this. I should be terrified, repulsed, but I’m not.
