“Did he say where he desires this occurrence? And for how long?”

“In London, of course.”

“I am afraid that will never do. Our other sisters are in Bath and we wish to remain in Bath.”

“That will require me to send another letter to his lordship. He might be quite agreeable, but he did not give me implicit instructions to do otherwise.” He held the response from Lord Westwood in his hand, waving it about. Faith took the missive and read it.

“I believe it would be more efficient to speak with his lordship ourselves,” Faith argued.

“I am afraid that is quite impossible.” He looked horrified, which only made Faith think it was just the thing to do.

“As long as he is alive on this earth, it is possible. He is only in Leicestershire.”

“But you may not disturb him there. He left implicit instructions that he is not to be bothered.”

“Unfortunately for us, we are his wards. He will have to be bothered. It will only take a few moments of his time.”

“You do not understand, miss. I cannot allow it.”

“Fortunately for you, I will make certain he knows you did not allow it, but I will go to Leicestershire.”

“You will never find it without directions,” he said with a hint of smugness.

“Oh, but I have the direction.” She held up the letter in her hand, then placed it in the pocket of her gown so that he would not try to take it from her. “Come on, Hope, let us go to Leicestershire.”

They began walking back to the hotel, Mr. Satterlee hot on their heels trying to talk her out of it.

He paused when they reached the door, clearly debating a public confrontation.

“If you would be so good as to arrange our transportation and settle our bill, I am certain our guardian would wish it.” Faith turned and left him at the door, hoping he would comply.

Dominic was feeling quitepleased with himself. They’d had perfect weather and had bagged several brace of pheasants, and were now relaxing around the fire after a fine meal and brandy.

The fact that he had five new wards never crossed his mind again after he sent the directions back to Satterlee.

“Excuse me, my lord, but there are two females requesting a word with you,” Barrett said.

“What the devil?” He was startled.

“Two females? Only two?” Freddy whined.

“Not that kind of female,” Barrett corrected.

“What do they want?” Dominic asked with a sinking feeling. Any lady who had tracked him down at this location only wanted one thing and that was a noose around his neck.

“They only requested a word and said it was most urgent.”

“What is it this time? Lost? A broken axle?” Rotham teased.

“I bet you a monkey they are alone and unchaperoned,” Freddy added most helpfully.

“I never bet against a sure thing,” Montford drawled.

Dominic sighed and rose, very much resenting the disturbance of his peace. “I will see them in the study.”

“You cannot be such a spoilsport as to see them without us!” Freddy objected.
